Mystery of the Flying Walenda/Houdini Bull

My brother-in-law gave me one of those stock cages you put in the bed of a pickup,told me I should put a top on it because a cow could climb out if it had a mind to,I could't believe it when he told me that but he said it's happened to him. on a side note how do you like raising miniature cattle? I'm thinking of getting one or two when I get my fence done. russ

Well, don't forget that they may now be 2-in-ones, thus no more heat cycles:D

I am not real knowledgeable when it comes to cows...
Can you explain this?

Thanks,
J

I once watched a cowboy on horseback chasing a half grown steer in a pasture that adjoined mine. When I saw that steer running full bore right through a 5 strand barbed wire fence into my pasture, I went to see how much damage was done to the fence, and there was no damage. How that steer went through a good tight barbed wire fence without leaving any sign of where he hit it was just mind boggling to me.

That cow should have been entered into a limbo contest!!!:laughing:

You should never have shown those movies of The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension to the calves to calm them down.

Boy now that brings back memories of 29 Palms and bad movie nights on Barracks Duty! :laughing::laughing::laughing:

Showing it to a cow? would it sour the milk???

well.. if a boy cow jumps the fence into a pasture of girl cows.. well.. birds and bees.. um.. the girl cows may be waiting for storks.. and thus no longer go into season.. :)

Well, the cow lingo goes kinda like this
cow = single animal
bred cow = pregnant cow or a 2-in-one
bred cow and calf = pregnant cow with calf at side = 3 in one (an auction term, purchase one lot and you get 3 animals for one money.

a cow ready to be successfully bred is said to be in "heat" (the opposite of frigid)= she will voluntarily stand unrestrained and allow the bull to proceed.
Cows can come into heat all year round, thus have calves any time of the year given a working bull and other favorable factors. Gestation approx 9 months.
