I was thinking about getting a motorcycle

I was talking to a buddy of mine about getting a motorcycle. He is an avid rider. He was pretty excited for me and was telling me about the progress they have made in motorcycle safety particularly from a German company. He even sent me a link to this site that clearly demonstrates how effective and basically crash proof motorcycles are getting using technology like this.

You don't need no heads up display to know that there are too many idiot car drivers on the road. However, in the video, I don't think the van was at fault

Actually, after seeing that clip a second time, wasn't the motorcycle driver supposed to flip wind visor down to actually see the HUD?

On a more serious note, I am surprised by the number of folks who ride without helmets in SC, where the state law requires helmets only for those 17 or younger.

I guess I am ambivalent as to whether helmets should be required -- people should be able to make their own decisions as long as they do no harm to others. But I suspect that society is picking up the tab for at least some of those folks when they have an accident.

Taxpayers pay out a lot in medicaid - people with brain injuries frequently need long term care, and few have insurance for it. So basically, most end up being a burden on the taxpayers.

In California you are required to have a helmet no matter the age. Lots of discussion about this at the time it was being forced on us. The stories being told were that the ability to survive a motorcycle crash without a helmet versus with a helmet were large. There was always a large amount of body organs being supplied by those who chose not to wear a helmet and died in a motorcycle accident because of brain trauma. Since the helmet law, organ donations have dropped. There are benefits both ways. If it were me, I would opt for a helmet, I would still prefer to let the rider determine his/her desire to wear a helmet and consequently their odds of being an organ donor.
