So why do you buy Deere? Even when times are tough?

I bought Deere because the nearest Kubota/New Holland and Kioti dealers are dicks.

The next nearest Kubota/New Holland dealer is a PITA to get to, and the next nearest Kioti dealer is out of state.

I would have to dive the dick trophy to our JD dealers . Not so much the dealers but the salesmen ..Arrogant ,bigheaded....."Green is the only colour that exists" attitude and the fact that they just price their used stuff right out of the game regardless what colour it is ! Come to think of it i bought my last JD off a MF dealer !

They're not?

They are JD green and say John Deere on them.

Can't you buy the same Deere mowers at the Deere dealer?

Here's an interesting story. I was walking out of a Lowe's one day a couple of years ago and I spot a JD zero turn self propelled lawn mower used maybe twice. The price 50 bucks!
So now I'm looking at it and thinking these things go for $450.00 in the store new! I ask the salesman," Hey what's with the JD mower for 50 bucks?" He says,"Oh that one, it has a bent drive shaft." I do some quick adding and subtracting in my head then inform the guy there's no blade. He says," I'll give you a new one", wow blades are 20 or 25 bucks, "I'll take it!"

I'm thinking I'll take this home give the shaft a couple of taps to get it good enough to mow with and it will be fine, heck, even if I have to buy a new shaft I'm still way ahead of the game.
The shaft is bent like a pretzel. It's twisted so bad that the whole crank is off from top to bottom. Hey, no big deal the shaft is about 60 bucks so I order one and put it in. The engine says B&S by JD or something like that so I'm thinking there's a sleeve for the piston, roller bearings for the shaft, etc.

Nothing! It's a piece of crap and no different than a B&S off the shelf piece of crap. Not industrial, not anything. First off, the shaft bent because it was direct drive to the blade and it extended below the engine about five inches. There is no way this thing wouldn't bend the moment you hit an obstacle.

Anyway, I get this thing running, the bagger doesn't fit right, the wheels don't turn right, etc. It's a piece of crap. My old Honda mower runs rings around this thing in every way possible.

The girls have a garage sale and I donate it to them. I put a $175.00 price tag on it and tell them keep the money. Well the lemmings line up for this thing just like I did and it sells right away. Caveat emptor, JD gets an email from me and it's not an invitation to Christmas dinner!

There's a big difference between JD stuff. Some of the mowers are just as terrible as Wally World mowers.

Here's another thing. take a look at JD's web site. It's very subtle. For instance, and I'm not knocking the 2x20 series tractors, heck I had two. BUT if you look at the "residential" you'll see the 2x20 series listed BUT if you look at the "commercial" you'll see the 3x20 up listed but NOT the 2x20. If you buy a 2x20 series tractor the dealer tells you it's not for commercial use and I think there's a paper you sign indicating that. Caveat emptor boys and girls, I love Deere but not every model.

First off if I was running a commercial bussiness I wouldn't want a 2000 Series tractor even if JD listed it as such. As far as that goes I wouldn't want a 3000 Series even though it is listed commercial, I would prefer a 110. :)

You're missing the point.

Besides you can do things with a tractor you can't do with a 110. How about a mid PTO? Front snow blower? Can't get it on the 110. JD doesn't even list implements like they do with tractors.

Cost? How about 44 grand for a 110.

You're comparing apples and oranges, not everyone in business needs a 110. If I'm in business and all I'm doing is pulling a landscape rake or tiller the last thing I need is to plop down 44k for a 110.

Not to cause trouble but...

If I was a green diehard, the "selling out" of Deere & Co. and dilution of the JD brand value would just disgust me. Residential lawn care isn't the only area JD has sold out of course, but it's perhaps the most outwardly-visible, unbecoming example of shameless name-trading we can see. You do have to ask yourself, "what next?"

I wonder what the parts availability of these machines will be like in 30-40 years...assuming any have survived. I expect the parts for today's old JD machines have always been on this shore.

I've got GREEN and ORANGE and I have no complaints about either. I always was, and still am a huge JD fan, but when it came to needing a backhoe, JD falls very short of Kubota in that area. Specs don't lie. So, for the first time, I went ORANGE, and as I said, have no regrets.

I noticed many guys based their decision on how much they liked or didn't like the salesman. Makes no sence. So I guess I should have bought a Yugo instead of a Mercedes, because the dealer was "SO NICE". Come on guys, its the machine that your buying, not a new friend. Ok if the dealer is a jerk then go to a different dealer, not a different tractor. Just my opinion, no offence intended.

Where has JD "sold out" other than the LA Series lawn tractors at THD and Lowe's? Why are we even worried about 30 year parts availability when the unit was never designed to last even half that long? The LA Series is exactly what it was meant to be - an entry level model - both in price and durability. Period. Go ahead and compare all the other lawn tractors in the $1,500 to $2,000 price range and show me where any one of them is considerably better or worse than any of the others. How is Deere "selling out" when all of the major manufacturers have entry level units selling at big box stores?

"Where have they sold out other then the LA series" Thats funny, isn't that enough? I'm a big JD fan, but you must admit, the LA series was a huge mistake. They should have left it at "Scotts or Sabre by JD". At least people didn't buy these thinking they were getting JD quality. I have never read so many horror stories about one tractor. My neighbor owns one and it is in the shop more often then not and thats when he can find someone willing to fix it. After so many years of quality and service, John Deere you should truly be ashamed , big mistake.

You ask how JD is selling out considering all the other manufacturers are doing it. Well not ALL are doing it, but the real reason is, because JOHN DEERE was a household name for so many years, and trusted by EVERYONE. Not as much now.
