Late to come back to the party

Seriously, take the brand & color out of this conversation and we could easily be talking about HP/Sony/Ford/DeWalt/Bostitch, the list goes on across all products.

I think what would make everybody happy is for Deere to make a BULLETPROOF Professional grade machine to sell at Home Depot & Lowes for $1,299.00

The Common Law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot...it can't be done.

They didnt sell out IMO...no more then DeWalt...what JD did was see a market and design/build/sell a machine suited for that market. I bet they started out with a "price point" and worked backwards from there. I think they did the right thing because I sure see alot of those machines in my travels...
I was at a close by (not my local) dealer a few years ago and they had a nice 4x8 sheet of plywood done up as a display using the parts from the JD "Big Box" version and the next step up....clearly illustrating to everyone what the differences were. They had both versions on the lot...I dont kid myself, IMO the only difference between the various $1k riding mowers is the paint job and plant of MFG.

I like HP printers and I have a Sony Bravia TV but I agree, caveat emptor. I check everything now but I don't think Consumer Reports is really that good. They went for years on their repair records and I feel the methods they used to gather info was flawed. It sure hurt the US car market. I'm glad to see Ford is coming back against companies like Toyota.

My Deere tractor is very well made, comparing one of them to their competitive box store riding mowers is a mistake, they are in two different categories.

I too have an HP printer and a Sony Bravia TV; but I looked at others before settling on the Sony. It still pisses me off that Sony is too cheap to put a battery backup in the TV to maintain the clock in the event of a power failure. My last top of the line Sony XBR CRT TV didn't have a battery backup either. What a nuisance to reset the clock and programmed on/off times just because of a short power outage. Now I have the TV/DVD and Comcrap's DVR on an APC UPS.

As for the HP I have, it was one of the few printers capable of printing 11" x 17" color images. It's an expensive piece of noisy, clunky junk at about $1,000. I looked at Xerox; but couldn't afford them. Canon now has an 11" x 17" printer that I may get when this HP pukes.

I have the office pro 8500 printer. It works great and sips ink but the trays suck. It has the aux. try and it's never worked right. I'm still using the 1100 laser jet I bought over 10 years ago and it still works well.

I know what you mean about no battery but I use APC UPS for all my expensive stuff. We get lightning here and surges.

The end of April I bought a Deere 4320 (48 hp) with FEL. I wanted a backhoe, but (regretfully) didn't buy it at the time for 60 mo. 0% financing.
I do have a B7510 Kubota w/FEL, Snow Plow etc., that I bought new about 6 yrs ago when we had 6 acres. We now (thankfully) have 18+. The Kubota (21hp) is just too small for the added land. Why didn't I go back and buy a new bigger Kubota?

1. I really try to by American to keep our manufacturing base alive. And everyone else should do the same, IMHO. Yeah, I know that the Kubotas' are assembled ("made"). Engines come from Japan, although, so do the smaller Deeres'.

2. Local (1/2 hr. away) Deere dealer. Kubota guy closed "local" shop and is a bit further away.

3. Kubota dealer is an absolute clown, jerk, idiot, moron and probable thief. I', still sure that he charged me over $200 for a front seal leak that should have been under warranty.

5. Kubota dealer is an absolute clown, jerk, idiot, moron and probable thief.

6. Kubota dealer is an absolute clown, jerk, idiot, moron and probable thief.

7. Deere dealer has a great reputation and the financing was great.

8. Next day delivery.

9. My long deceased grandpa had a Deere, among other brand tractors. Since before I can remember, as the stories, go my love of tractors, especially Deere is a family legacy.

10. How can you beat Deere Green/Yellow? It's NOT possible!

Steve

I have a BusinessJet 2800, which is a joke for business use because the trays have a small capacity and it's flimsy. Plus getting working drivers for 64-bit XP is just about impossible that I went back to 32-bit XP. Also no working drivers for Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I wish my 13-year old LaserJet 4 hadn't died a few years back...what a great printer.

Lightning is common here too. Last week, we had a nearby strike that fried my neighbor's DSL modem. I had two of those LED/LCD flat panel nightlights fried, my computer's speakers fried, two out of three of my weather station instruments fried, my wife's atomic clock went bonkers until she put new batteries in it, a circuit breaker on one of my sub-panels popped. There may be more lesser used stuff dead or acting nuts that I have yet to find.

Afraid I have to disagree with that and since John Deere makes tractors in India and uses foreign suppliers, I don't see the whole "Buy American" as relevant anymore. Our manufacturers depend on other countries' consumers to buy our goods and a LOT of "foreign brands" have factories here and their domestic content equals or exceeds that of some America brands.

10. How can you beat Deere Green/Yellow? It's NOT possible!

Actually it is, JMO

JD is as American as a company can get. They employ thousands in this country.

My decision in order: JD 4320
1 - Dealer Network, 20 minutes from me and well established.
All others were 1 1/2 to 2 hours from me. Jim was awesome at the JD dealership best sales out of all the others.
2 - 4320 with Cab / Air ride seat was great, could not have been happier,
turns on a dime.
3 - Price is not that far off from others, If I had to sell certainly would be easy where I live, JD is well liked.
