Ok answer this city boy's dumb question. LOL Do brown eggs really have double yolks?

50 years ago when I was in my early teens, My cousins and I would argue over who got the double yoke eggs at Grandmas house. Ken Sweet

When I was a kid, we periodically found double yolk eggs, but then I went for many years, buying eggs at the grocery store, without seeing a double yolk. However, awhile back I changed from buying "large" eggs to buying "jumbo" eggs at Walmart and I've found several double yolk eggs. Incidentally, we only pay $1.38 a dozen for the jumbo eggs at Walmart. Brown eggs are more expensive for no reason I can think of except for there being fewer of them produced.

It always reminds me of a story my mother used to tell about moving to Baltimore, MD, in 1940-41 when I was a baby. We lived in an apartment with mostly city folks who, even then, knew nothing of country life. Mother said a street vendor came around pretty often with a push cart selling eggs and vegetables. Mother said whoever saw him first would knock on the neighbors' doors to tell them he was outside, and one day one of the neighbors came to tell mother he was there and she also said, "He has a good price on eggs today, but make him let you pick our your own because some of them are so old they've turned brown." Of course mother thought that was hilarious.

No, brown eggs are hard boiled.

Actually heard this from an American girl in Prague years ago - in a supermarket.
I don't think she was a country girl:)

We pay $3 dozen to our neighbor. She says depending on what feed they get this is about break even. Their chicken are more a project for their kids rather than money. Eggs are always mixed- white, brown, blue, green. And always great. Sometimes other friends will just give us a dozen or two just cause they have extra. Sort of a disincentive to have our own when factoring in the work LOL

My wife didn't have the best of upbringing and thinks all things meat come on a plastic tray with a clear wrapper. Not sure I could get her to enjoy a nicely cooked chicken breast that she was talking to just hours before :).

We buy ours from our neighbors, $2 a dozen. And I drive by the happy chickens each day I go to work. It's nice to know that they get to live out in the sun, breathe fresh air and be cage free. :)
