I'll take my chances any time.. IE.. being the guy with a gun in a fist fight. I'm sure statistically the guy with the gun looses now and then.. but you would have lost without the gun too..

I prefer CC let them make the first move THEN show your cards..

That sucker punch reference was someone noticing your expensive gun and waiting for an opportunity to catch you by surprise. My point was you wouldn't have lost anyway because you wouldn't have had a confrontation in the first place, without the gun. How often is walking around with a visible gun like walking around with a Rolex or a wad of hundreds in your shirt pocket?

A large percentage, I'd wager' of strongarm robbery is happenstance. IE.. being in the wrong place at the wrong time. If I was a crook ( and I ain't :) ) targeting a person armed would not be my first choice. IE.. the approach would have to be perfect.. or I might get shot inthe attempt.

perhaps crooks don't think like that.. however you don't hear of too many stories of beat cops walking their shift and getting robbed.. and they have some expensive gear on them too... just don't hear it too often... most (all?) of the stories I've heard of a LEO loosing his service arm is during an arrest, or a car burglery where a shotgun was stolen.. etc.

This reminds me of a time, many years ago, when Dallas had an older officer who walked alone at night around the old Farmers Market area. This was before the days of handi-talkies and cell phones, so he had no means of communication without going to find a telephone. I can remember when he always carried his service revolver in the uniform holster EMPTY; not a single bullet in it. He had a loaded snub nosed .38 in his pocket. He said if anyone jumped him in one of those dark alleys they'd go for his service revolver and he didn't intend to get shot with his own gun.

Cabelas makes a mount for ATV/UTV's for pistols and many others for rifles. Should work for tractors also.

If thats the case, you have failed at the first and most important part of CONCEALED carry.

Not to mention that if you let someone "catch you by surprise" you probably shouldn't be armed to begin with.

On a strongly related note, here's a link to a technique that everyone - armed or not - should be familiar with

Even the most vigilant person can be caught by surprise.
