Crushing Cans?

Trash Compactor ftw!

We have several trash compactors (residential units) Products from GE Appliances
And they work great.

I got one free from my neighbor that was quite old and would not run. It got caught in a flood and the motor was rusted up. Tore it down and broke the motor free and it works great now out in the garage as a dedicated can crusher. We also have a new GE compactor inside that is also a deidcated can crusher and it works great too.

I can get a ton of cans smashed flat and they come out in a nice little cube in a bag. :D

Can you securely mount one of those cheap manual can crushers at the golf course near the bin? That way the golfers can crush their own cans, and your wife will only need to bring home the bag once a week.

Everytime you crush a can click your heels three times and say " I'm glad I don't live in Oregon" A can here is worth the five cent deposit the buyer had to pay. So if you're collecting other peoples can you can actually make pretty good money. I used to have dinner catered at work for my crew once a month just from the cans they collected on site. Plus we still had plenty of cash left over for a petty cash fund in case somebody needed a quick loan. Problem is you can only recycle them in the bar code is perfectly legible. Forget crushing you can't even dent them here. :-(

In Michigan it is 10 cents. Funny Seinfield episode where Kramer and Newman cook up a scheme to get 5 cent deposit cans and take them to Michigan...

I think the Michigan bottle return law is the best law our politicians ever passed (for explaination, see posts titled "People are Pigs".) Now I wish they would add deposits to bottled water and juice drinks.

Yep, I even wish they'd go back to glass bottles with deposits for most drinks. People are still going to throw them out along the road, but at least back then they were worth gathering up and gave the kids a little income.

ALL plastic and aluminum drink containers here in Oregon have a 5 cent deposit. But once again ya can't crush them and you can only return them to stores that sell that specific brand and size. It's kind of a pain. :(

I wish we could recycle junk mail that way. If we could return all the junk mail to the stores that send it out, you probably couldn't get into the front doors of some of these places. I'd love it if you could write, "Return to Sender" on junk mail and they had to pay return postage.

For door to door salesmen you can post No Soliciting signs. I wish you could post a No Junk Mail sign on the mail box.:D

Figured it out, I just line up the bags (heavy duty 55 gallon drum liners) on the paved driveway and run my trailer over them a few times. Reduces them about one third. Trailer is made from a full size GMC pickup bed mounted on a two ton truck frame with huge truck wheels and 10 and 12 ply tires. Cost, about a pint of diesel.
