Illegal Trash Dumping

   / Illegal Trash Dumping #21
We used to have a common collection point at the entrance to our rural sub division. every Wednesday eve, all of us had to tak our trash cans 1-2 miles to the bottom of the hill. We eventually got curbside garbage pickup, although sometimes the curb is a distance away on 5 and 10 acres lots.

So we had curbside for about a month and a half. I had to run an errand one evening; when I got to the bottom of the hill, there was a bunch of garbage bags in the old collection spot.

I looked, found mail and perscriptions with phone numbers. I called, but got no answer; probably better anyways. Second call was to the Sheriff office. They got ahold of the lady. She claimed, she lived in our neighborhood and was unaware of the new garbage collection at curbside. She claimed she lived with somebody in our neighborhood, although the mail address in the garbage was 5 miles down the road.

Sheriff Deputy called me back, explained what they told him. When I was done, the Deputy pretty much took my side.

The garbage was gone, about an hour later.

Funny thing is the next morning, there was a note posted on the signboard at the main road: Beware, someone seen going thru garbage and taking mail!".

Haha, it was me, and it wewnt directly to the County Sheriff. It can be picked up at the desk of Deputy Smith :D

lots of dumping on my road. Its not only the trash that drives me crazy. Its the organics. For example never had a problem with burs until the "lady" up the road cleaned out her horse pasture and dumped them above us, well theres more then one thing that goes down hill and now i have been dealing with spraying for burs the last two years.

What's a "bur"?

"Bur" is a plant that will grow anywhere you don't want it. I have seen them 2 inches across at the base, covered with hundreds of "burs" that stick to EVERYTHING. The only thing that keeps them in check are goats.

Off topic, but I destroy all shipping labels, perscription labels, and general mail with my address and names on it.

How many of you all do the same?

any paper product gets stuck in the fire pit and recycled by heat. It saves us since we pay per bag for pickup.

As for the burs, think natures velcro. Have a dog with long hair they are a nightmare. I have hit some with the weedwacker and not been able to cut them in half. They also have a huge taproot. Each bur that stickes to you is full of seeds so they just end up popping up everywhere.
Spraying them this weekend, again!
That and the knotweed (japanese bamboo plant). After it flowers and the bees are off it i hit it with round up. It takes 3 years to kill that stuff, those rhyzomes are strong.

Me too. Was surprised by all the info I found. It helped the Sheriff's dept find the person very quickly...

Forge,

I think burning is the opposite of recycling. Like you and riptide said, I do the same thing and burn anything with names and addresses. All other paper goes to curbside recycling.
