Caroni Flail Belt Failure

According to this exploded diagram , you don't even have to remove the rotor . It looks like there are bearing caps that are simply withdrawn from the outside to service the bearings and seals .

You know I was unsure if one or both of them was in floating position because of the exploded diagram and neither one would have to be set with a fixed bearing race because of the compression spacers used for them
it does make it easier for sure.

By the way , if it was air trapped in a grease gun , it would not have made a noise . The gun would simply not work because of the air , so could not pump air to make a noise .

true, very true, I have had grease that hated pins and the pins hated the grease they were so tight- volvo loader boom and bucket pins and you did hear small pops greasing these with the power greasers sometimes.

well time to go to bed iron horse -throw a few shrimp on the barbie for me as i have to go to town in four hours - I would send some wine to you but a cohort in queensland told me i would end up visiting the local jail there where he is if i sent him some by UPS.

That link doesn't take me to a specific item.

Gates B43 single belt x3 is basically what you need.

Here is what you need:

3 Gates B43's, $50, and about 10 minutes later, I'm back in business.....

The belts were a bit tough to find, but I found 'em eventually.

Big thanks to whoever figured out the Caroni to Gates conversion, and to Island for his pic!!

I cranked the tensioner almost all the way, is that OK??

Here's a snapshot. I don't see Gates mentioned is why I'm asking.

There are a lot of companies that make B43 belts. I don't know who NAPA uses. Gates is a premium brand and given the issues with belt failures with the original Caroni supplied belts, I would recommend paying a couple of bucks extra (each) for the Gates. If you look at the photo I posted I think you can see the distinctive name (power something or another). These are just basic good Gates belts. They make even fancier types but I haven't had any trouble with the plain vanilla Gates.

Follow up to the "pop, pop there goes the seal" subthread. It appears that I may simply have been displacing some air in the seal or so my tractor savvy neighbor thinks. I've mowed the 8 acres I needed to get done before putting in the fencing to improve my sheep pasture and no problemo so far with anything overheating. PLUS I got a spiffy laser guided IR thermometer out of the deal to boot.

As to belts, I thought I was getting Gates but instead found I was getting Kevlar enhanced Pix B43 belts. Kaman Industrial Technologies swears by them and claims that's what they put on all their machinery, we will see. I will put them on after I go through the replacement set I got from Agri Supply and report back to the group.

As of now everything seems good except I'm about 2 weeks behind on getting things shut down and prepared for winter.
