What's next? Today I get ID'd at home depot for.......... liquid nail caulk, WOW. We just keep letting the freedoms fly off into the wind so we can have more laws, rules, and regulations forced upon us, WHEN WILL IT STOP ? When is enough going to be enough, when they tell us who to marry, when to go to the head, when lights are out etc.... It's time for folks to start voting for freedoms{what is right and wrong} not for $$$$$$ and bureaucratic red tape BS.. Okay I'm done ranting now just 1 vet mad as heck as to where things are headed.

O.K. Let's tackle this loss of freedoms one issue at a time, starting with minors inhaling liquid nails fumes to get high. What is your solution to prevent minors getting their hands on liquid nails?

The Home Depot I usually go to only has self check out. I guess next time I will check my own id. I often forget my age so maybe this will help me remember.

We do our best to educate them and let them know that it's unhealthy. Yet if they're still stupid enough to try it maybe it's best if they're removed from the gene pool. :)
Sorry, I fail to see what "huffing" or "protecting our youth from themselves" has to do with carding some grey haired guy trying to do some home improvements.

I think the main point that 20 20 is trying to make is that little loses of freedoms like anonymously buying liquid nails soon become big loses like WWII concentration camps (my example not his). So I think we should cut 20 20 a little slack since he has served this country to protect freedoms that many of us take for granted. :2cents:

If you want to experience a total loss of freedoms, then just go on a military base. These people who are defending our freedom probably have the least freedom of all. Just getting on certain bases can be a chore. The MP's can stop your car at any time and search it without a warrant. You can't bring gun on base unless you live there and then it has to be registered with the base. Get caught with drugs and you probably will wish you had chosen a different career. When you get called for your random pee in the bottle drug test (while someone stands there and watches you) you don't have the freedom to say "I don't want to".

When Uncle Sam sez it's time to go, you go without any choices of where or how dangerous. How do I know this, well it's because my wife retired as a Navy CAPT after 26 years of service. As a Navy "wife" I experienced all these things and never thought my freedoms were lessened.

I have little sympathy for people who think freedom is free.

Thanks for YOUR service......Most forget the sacrifices that the "MATES" make.........

As an old, retired, and concerned Vet that sees the country spiraling downward to someplace I really do not want to be I cannot pass up replying to the above...........We travel a lot for pleasure and work and as such stay a lot at "Family Camps" on various bases/forts...........I wish the country was run as a military post..................NEVER do I feel as safe and secure in being an American or physically protected as I do when at 2 am, I wonder who is driving by and it is a security person..........When was the last time you read about home invasions, muggings, burglary, or a car jacking on a military post?????......

God bless America.........Dennis

The notion that requiring the showing of ID to buy liquid nails is the first step in our nation's journey to Nazism or that sniffing glue is a good way to reduce the pool of society's undesirables is to me just absurd. I have to wonder Gents....what kind of OTC indiscretions were some of you involved in during your youth?

My understanding is that sniffing glue can and will cause permanent neurological damage.

Adee-aye Denis and thanks for those kind sentiments.

I'm happy you're enjoying your retirement and have the health and resources to get around and see this great country of ours.

Please remember though that living on a military base isn't Shangri-la. Violence, particularly domestic violence is a serious problem on every base every day.

This whole thread and others like it always provoke deep thought on my part, and I am sure the readers too.

Keywords to reflect on always seem to be "freedom" and "rights". The posts always tend to lean in a direction of "rights" being taken away in the bigger picture of things.

Just remember, we always have the freedom to walk out the service organization or not provide identification if we so choose.

I am fascinated by the "convenience of our freedoms". Think I'll start my thesis for my doctorate on this very subject.

I'm sorry if you thought my response was directed at you in particular, it was not. It was directed at the many people who think Freedom is FREE!

Like I said I have served so I do know what it is like to be in the military. I respect those that basically give up all their freedoms while serving. The 1st words out of our drill sergeants month was "WE OWN YOU NOW{UNCLE SAM} YOU LEFT ALL FREEDOMS AT THE DOOR ONCE YOU SIGNED".

I am glad you asked that, and I don't really know all the answers{wish I did}. Before I go much further, what is to keep minors from buying gasoline and snorting that? Kids can buy a can of gas, spray paint, hair spray, certain cleaning agents etc.... but liquid nails is the cause of all doppers....,,. I find that hard to believe.

What if I had been out at my truck loading lumber but forgot the liquid nail, so I send my child in to grab it for me, he/she can't, so now I'd have to waste time{which for most is money} to go show ID for something stupid.

I understand we have issues with substance abuse but ID'ing a middle aged man won't do squat to stop the issue/problem. I quess maybe these abuse issue need to be 1st looked at in the home, oops I'm probably bad for writting that, how dare we place responsibilty for children on their parents. There is a small town south of me that has a huge abuse problem{lived there years ago, one reason I took my family and left}. No one can seem to figure out why, in reality all they need to do is look at the parents, {yes they're abusers also, or just plain don't care}. I allways found it funny{weird}, it's harder to get a drivers lic then it is to pop baby's out.

MossRoad, I quess my answer to your question would be start at the home. Then maybe have a better educational program to show kids what is wrong with substance abuse in the schools. I do strongly feel that ID'ing innocent older folks{for stupid stuff} isn't going to do anything.
