Well I will throw this one out there for everyone to chew on. Years ago in another lifetime I was a Police Officer and I attended the Traffic Institute at Norwestern University and I remember back then a discussion among all the police officers in the class and the instructor took place on the theory ( at that time ) of " Stop and Frisk " which means stopping someone without probable cause...just to check them out and there was a concensus in the room including the instructor that we would never see such a law in the US...only countries like Russia , China etc. would that ever be tolerated.

Well guess what...we have had stop and frisk now in this country for years - at least since the early '80's ...think of the roadblocks that stop folks for no reason ..just to check for license, insurance. Driving under the influence...there is no probable cause..it is just stop and frisk...So we were all wrong...I think this alone proves 20 -20's concerns are valid...Just my 2 cents.

Yep, stop and frisk in Az, they set up (at least several years ago they did) checkpoints miles for border crossings to check citizenship. Many refused to cooperate and were generally allowed to pass. Others not so lucky, there were drug sniffing dogs that worked the line of cars and they wrote a lot of tickets for the folks that would run over to Calif for a weekend, party a bit and still have some drugs on them or in the car. If I recall, small amounts even of drugs is a felony in Az and was costly to get out of jail, lawyer, court, etc.

It was certainly a grey area at minimum, but most agreed that it was stepping over the line.

I've never been frisked in a DUI checkpoint. Has anyone here at TBN every been frisked at a DUI checkpoint?

I was, however, directed to leave into a dead end neighborhood with the only way out being to go around the block only to be stopped at the same DUI checkpoint. Now that was aggravating. ;)

It is the stop part Moss, without probable cause and then once the officer stops you if he sees anything in your car that he deems suspicious he can frisk you and even search your car and you did nothing to provoke any of this....The officer never had probable cause and in my day , back in the '60's , you needed probable cause to stop someone...now days you don't..Now there will be those that say ..well, it does not bother me since I am doing nothing wrong..Well maybe and then again maybe not..it depends on the officer and his intent and honesty..The real point is...we used to be free to drive without interference unless we violated some law...that is no longer the case ..Is it ?

I think there are much larger issues to be concerned about than being asked to show ID for age verification for controlled substances.

You are correct, my point is if we don't take care of the little crap that happens sooner or later we'll be standing in slurry stores.

I have been stopped for speeding{which I was not, explain in a second} then frisked  It was a crooked little town sheriff department, which has been shut down finally because they finally stepped on the wrong toes. Of course it took many years to shut down because their harrassing techniques were legal. I'm not saying all officers are bad many believe in their job and hope to make a difference. The problem happens when the laws over step the bounds of the innocent. Then of course there are the PUNKS that think they're tough because they have a uniform

My ticket was bocus because of the fact he clocked the wrong vehicle{me}, there was a side road{other vehicle}. Of course this seemed to happen more then once in that spot, if I'm not mistakin it was the same vehicle on the side road also??????

Like I said in another post we have enough dumb A*$ laws without injected more crap into our society. INSTEAD we need to enforce what is allready on the books.

Now in FL you can be pulled over just because an officer does not see a seat belt across your shoulder...before the new law went into effect they had to have another reason to pull you over to cite you for a seat belt violation...

It really irks me that you're required to wear a seat belt in an enclosed vehicle yet motorcyclists are not required to wear helmets...go figure..!

I was frisked and detained by US Customs on entry to NYC,
detained again on entry into Washington state,
detained and jailed on entry into an "ally" of ours.

Talk about civil liberties being "Challenged". :)
