snakes kill mice...mice kill tractors. I have many many more complaints about mice than snakes.

If you had dealt with 6 foot rattlesnakes aplenty as I did in West Texas as a kid, I fully expect that you would put mice on a different plane that poisonous snakes. Non poisonous snakes, no problem. If that's the only ones there, then I agree, let them take care of the rats and mice.

I've never carried a pistol when on a tractor. Only when I go to town.

All joking aside this is not a bad thread. I have not read every post, but I will share my expierence. I am a police officer in shelby county TN and we worked a case a few years ago inwhich a person was bushhogging a field within the city. He was approached by three subjects, one with an assault rifle. They robbed him and luckly did not shoot him. You never know what will happen even when your on your tractor. A person should not feel embarssed about carrying a firearm and I think that more of the right people should.

You guys are just making me sick. (Not at you!) But sick that in our state of WI it is against the law to have a loaded or even uncased weapon available in or on a vehicle. I've been shredding on a 160 acre woodland plot and had to grab the "emergency TP" and hot foot it to the back of a tree. And while "occupied" have had 300# bears walk within 20 yards of me and the RUNNING tractor. In the past 10 years, they have gone from skittish to bold. Very bold. I have gotten off to move branches, rocks, stumps, etc and jumped up coyote's, racoons, racoons that charged and were probably rabid, wolves and snakes. (I hate snakes!) There have been reports of gangs of Asians from Milwaukee turning woodlots into drug manufacturing areas too. I would not want to run up against them unarmed (or even armed for that matter! But better armed than not). Yet our limp wristed panty waist politicians in the big cities don't think we have any rational need to have a loaded gun on or about our persons while on a vehicle. And they explicitly include farm equipment as vehicles. And no CC possible either.

I am glad to live in one of the last free states. Taken directly from the MS gun laws:

"It shall not be a violation of this section for
any person over the age of eighteen (18) years
to carry a firearm or deadly weapon concealed
in whole or in part within the confines of his own
home or his place of business, or any real property
associated with his home or business or
within any motor vehicle."

I didn't even notice this thread was still going. I got a new tractor a few weeks ago there was no place to put my machete on the new tractor. So I threw the machete on my gun belt and hung it on my ROPS. Guess that means I'm carrying on my tractor now. :)7

FYI I live in the middle of nowhere at the end on a long dirt road. If three anybodys came within sight they'd be definitely trespassing and my gun would have been in my hand long before they got close. :)7

E-morris is right its not a bad thread- We (i leave in bartlett tn) are not in the safest place in the US for robbery, drugs or just meaness:mad: I have hunted the same property for 20 years and ever year I have to run someone out of our ponds fishing- to say the least they are drinking and not happy to leave. I carry and proud to do so. And yes on and off the Kubota:thumbsup:

I'll add that any time I'm on my farm property I carry .. on or off the tractor.. too many hogs and bulls around to NOT to carry. never know when something bad might happen and you are down in the hog pen or the bull pasture with a bad leg and a riled up animal..

I carry a 4 inch Standard Judge in stainless. Blackhawk belt pouch keeps it clean and available.

How has the Judge performed? I have thought about getting one as a snake gun for the tractor.

I've been thinking about getting a snake gun to carry around. I have a .44 Ruger with a 10 inch barrel that I normally have with me that's great on hogs, and good on snakes if I hit what I'm aiming at. Problem with snake shooting while on the tractor is how quickly it happens, and how slow I am in getting the pistol on target.

Something that fires a .410 seems like it might increase my odds.
