A week ago today (last Friday) I bought a bottle of wine, along with some groceries and wasn't paying close enough attention when the items were being rung up. I later noticed that I was charged $1.50 more for the wine that the price that was posted. So Sunday morning, I was going back to that store for other things and I took that receipt with me to request a refund. Now in Texas, they cannot sell alcoholic beverages before noon on Sunday, and the cashier in Customer Service found he could not ring up a refund on alcoholic beverages either; told me I'd have to come back after noon.:laughing: It wasn't worth it for $1.50.

Guess what - here in Georgia you can't buy wine or any alcoholic beverage to take home on Sundays...period ! In some Georgia towns you can order it on Sundays after 12 Noon with a meal but as far as taking any home it is a no go...go figure ? :confused2:

20-20 - Here is another law I think is Foolish....The other day I went to Sams Club at 7:00 AM - They open early for Business Members...I bought what I needed plus a bottle of wine and when I was checking out at about 7:30 AM the cashier tried to ring up the small bottle of wine....and said sorry you can't buy the wine until 8:00 AM --to which I said ..why not ? She said it was the law but I could walk around the store for 30 minutes...I told her I would pass on the wine to just keep it, checked out and went on my way...My Mrs. was not too happy since it was for a dinner party so I had to stop on the way home and buy it....See that is just a stupid law...Sams opens at 7:00 AM for business customers...go figure...????

In Indiana liquor stores are closed on Sunday. You cannot buy carry out package alcohol on Sundays from anyone: grocery, drugstore, etc... Restaurants can sell alcohol with a meal. Bars are not open on Sunday, although club bars can be open to members, who can buy alcohol for any of their guests, so the American Legions are usually hopping on Sunday afternoons. ALL Alcohol sales are prohibited between the hours of 3:00am and 7:00am every day. No alcohol sales on a few holidays, either. And there are some special rules for election day as well.

CinderSchnauzer - I see it a little differently...When you are born as long as it was before about 1972 , you had the right to life...period...Now you really don't seem to even have a right to be born...not really , Society has taken that right away for many, so how can you suggest a person has any rights anymore other than what you call - Privileges granted to them by the Society in power at the time of their birth, if they should be allowed to be born. The Bill of Rights and Constitution as well as all Laws...are written by the Society in power. Just my view.

Once born we have to fight for our rights !

In my view there seems to be some confusion here regarding whether an activity is legal, whether it takes place in a private business and a few other things. Just because something is legal does not make it a "right"

Driving is legal - is everyone entitled to a license? - NO
Drinking is legal - is everyone entitled to drink anywhere anytime? - NO
Working is legal - can employers ignore OHSA because they are private? - NO

Check the Bill of Rights - nothing in there about the right to smoke anywhere / anytime. Certain activities are regulated for the real or perceived good of others - smoking is one of those regulated activities.

In FL you can't buy beer or wine before 1:00 PM on Sundays...

I always figured it was this way so non-church goers couldn't get a head start on those that do go to church...

I agree, that's why I keep saying private business, no different then private home.

What do you think about adult places, stores, strip joints, etc...? I may not like ____ doing ____ to someone so it is my choice whether to visit/work the private{legal} business where this happens. My question is, should we have the right to tell others what they can or can not do{legally} on their private land, business, home?

Lets face it there are way worse things in this world that cause health issue other then smoking, just take fast for instance. There are WAY worse{more dangerous} jobs other then working in a smokey bar, running machinery for example. I just feel the complaint about ____ can't work in a bar because of the dangers of smoke is VERY lame. This was nothing more then a control policy, once the powers to be are done with smokers they'll start on the next thing and on and on and on, heck they've allready started on soft drinks in this state.

In your example above, the activity in these adult places imposes no physical harm upon anyone who has not agreed to participate. If I chose to go to a strip joint for example, the activity has no effect on my physical well being or ability to enjoy life. If I'm sitting in a restaurant and a smoker sits at the next table and lights up, I'm forced to breath the second hand smoke, which effects my ability to enjoy my meal and in the case of some people may cause health problems.

As stated in a previous post - smoking is not protected by the Bill of Rights. It is a practice, regulated by the State and rightly so.

Yes before you had a choice you could go to smoking or non smoking section now the whole restaurant is non smoking so what happened to my choice?
