NONE ... OSHA was not invited.

Yeah - You can tell OSHA wasn't there because work is actually being done - They would have had a committee of people starting a pilot study interacting with scientists and physists trying to determine if that is something they could study to figure out if the importance of safety on that work-site. 10 months later they would let you apply for a permit so they could start studying it.

In the end they would determine you must need a stimulus package if you are ever going to get those beams up. Oh and don't forget to thank the govt - You couldn't do it without them.

It always comes down to how much risk you are willing to tolerate. Some people here would never climb on a tractor without a ROPS, others here have never own a tractor that had a ROPS. ;)

:thumbsup:Real people getting real work accomplished without gubbmint's nattering nabobs of negativism grinding it all to a halt. God bless America.

There's a time and place for safety overseers, but people need to be allowed to determine their own acceptable risk when working for themselves. Darwin taught us that some would be more successful at this than others, but such is life.

Stifling ingenuity and industriousness of the individual has limits.

I measured max height today, the attachment allows us 20' to underside of boom versus the FEL's stock max of 11'.

We are in the county; oh yeah!!! ...no permits required.

I have a few stories about code enforcement from when I lived in City limits. My "Hatfield" type neighbor was a retired attorney for code enforcement, and he had me in his cross hairs. "Wasn't fair" So, now I am enjoying the FREEDOM found with living in the county!!!

Defensively, I really must say the group was being safe. :ashamed: :D

This summer I built a garage and had to set a 21" tall 32' I-beam on top of 10' posts. I didn't have my L4240 yet so I had to use my 580k. It didn't really fit in the garage so I had to angle it half in the middle of the door and use the backhoe. Since I couldn't lift underneath like you I had to pull the bucket and make an extension to get the lift I needed. I even used 3/8" grade 70 chains to lift with, those ones that say not for overhead lifting, lol. I just made sure nobody was ever under the beam.

Looks like you also got the job done, congrats.

I must admit, that's an interesting solution. I guess my time is more valuable....I would have run into town and rented a crane truck for a day from the local equipment rental company (~ $60).
