Why was there no noise with the same implement was hooked to another 4x20 tractor.
If the clutches slip even a fraction at each engagement how long will they last before they wear out? How much will that cost?

The PTO engagement is electro-hydraulic on these machine as you know...It is ON or OFF. Something has to give a little when you are starting a big flywheel like a brushhog.

A bush hog has a big flywheel mass to get going. I always turn my rpm to idle or lower than 1100 to initiate. It is an oil bath clutch so it should last a long time, however if you are initiating a 6 foot bush hog at full rpm, it could put some wear on it. The clutch is very similar to a motorcycle type. You can wear them out too if you like to drag race and slip it a lot. If it grabs hard but squeals, you should be good to go as it is still gripping. Be sure to adjust your bush hog's pto slipper clutch. I only recommend bush hog's with slipper clutches to this type of pto setup.

Isn't that the job of the dampner (sp?)
That is what I was told before he changed it. He said in bigger hp tractors if the dampner goes out it can break the crank in the motor because the dampner wouldn't take the shock out of going to 1/1
I am just really confused and that really bothers me. I just have to understrand stuff :confused2:

I think it calls for like 1200rpm for engagement and only the dealer went above that to 1500.
It also makes the noise at idle.
If this is normal then so be it but they said they have never heard of this before.
Oh and I also never engage while sitting in uncut grass

Oh it does have a clutch on my cutter but my dealer told me to tighten it up till the sound stops. The first time I took it to them he told me my slip clutch was too loose and it wasn't the tractor

I usually tighten mine up when necesary to what I'm cutting. When it slips while cutting, I tighten it up. That reminds me, mine needs tightening right now...

Anyhow, the shredder clutch usually slips on mine at startup making a squealing noise.

I have a 4520 that I use on a JD Hx 10' pull-type rotary mower. I need to have rpms in the 2000-2100 range to get the mower started. I do not have the squealing you describe and I am taxing the tractor pto much harder than you are. Is the squeal from the tractor or the mower?

While I was @ the dealer I put My Cutter (They didn't even help me hook up) on a new 4x20 on the lot and not a peep.

Sounds like normal to me too.
You've reported it to them, and if something goes wrong then they will likely be able to make it right.
I wouldn't be too **** about it, and I'd accept the squeal as normal at least for your setup. I get some on my 4300, and have never given it any extra thought.

If the clutches slip even a fraction at each engagement .....
Wouldn't need a clutch if there wasn't some slip. Seems to me there has to be slippage when engaging through a clutch. Some wives squeal more than others too. :)
As do some customers. ;)
