Thanks for the advice/tips. One other item I wanted to ask is about seats. Currently the tractor has a seat from a Yale forklift. And is rotting out from the bottom, see the pics. So looking for a replacement on the internets......
Most of the seats on eBay seem to be affordable. But what works best for the long haul? The Ford 601 has the old school saddle looking seat, but it can start to get hard on the bones after a few hours of bush wackin'. The seat that came on the tractor, or what people say came on it is 200 bucks...and that is on eBay!

Anyone have a good model that they prefer? I tried to search the forums here with no luck. Guess I need to start a new thread, and pretty confident that it might get heated. :)

any seat that fits you there is a bunch of different types of seats that goes on these tractors and depending on the build of the person would determine the seat they like so it would be more of what fits u not what everyone else likes

tsc sells a 99$ universal seat that has arm rests and decent cushion.. adjustablle front to rear with slide handle.. will bolt right on to the 2 bolt mount on a ford top cover..

if you need clearance for a remote handle.. or ya got long legs, use a big piece of box channel with offset holes in each side.. mount box to top cover.. then seat to box..

so.. do you see alot of 'cd' oils on the shelf? no? me either.. what i do see on the shelf is ci-4 or (+) or cj-4.

Okay, now I know what you meant when you said "any C rated oil." We were actually saying the same thing. Yes, I agree that any CI-4, CJ-4 of any brand will work great and they will typically be 15W40. When I started using Delo over 20 years ago, I commonly saw 30W, but I don't remember seeing it in a long time.

I misunderstood what you were saying, so I'm glad we're in tune.

Also Soundguy has good advice on the seat. I was pleasantly surprised when I was able to buy an entire seat and mount with weight adjustment and armrests for well under $100. I have a thread somewhere below with pictures of my 3000. You can see my $85 seat. It worked out very well.

occasionally when I drive in northern areas I will see some 10w30 c rated oil.. but nothing in the southern states for sure.. special order for that kind of stuff.

I've swapped out several liquids as recommended, and thanks again for the advice.

But while looking around on the rear axle and removing the fill cap, it looked pretty dry in that "chamber". My plan is to drain and refill, but I want to get the right oil/grease beforehand. However, when I'm reading through all these manuals for the tractor(picked up the original manual and shop manual), it calls the rear axle and hydraulic system as one in the same....that sound right?

Yes, the rear axle and the hydraulics use the same sump. It should probably be Hytrans. The transmission gets gear oil such as 85W90.

Hope this helps.

the rear axle and the trans use the same oil and it used nh 134 or jd 303 are equal spec. but definetly not gear oil unless u wont to be buying a new hydro. pump

yep.. i'd be putting in a utf oil meeting the m2c134d spec in all compartments aft of the crankcase.

I stand corrected. I knew for sure that the rear axle/hydraulics used the hydraulic/trans lube, but I thought the transmission just used gear oil.

Thanks for the correction.
