I called my S-10 the 'Vega Incarnate' among many other things.

I put little stock in Condemner Reports as they think they're experts on everything. The local news ran a story on CR recommending wine for Thanksgiving dinner.

I see Motor Trend named the Chevy Volt as car of the year. Wow, how many years has Chevy been promising this over priced subsidized ride based on the Cruze platform?

The operative words are "may be", I am not going to be the one to find out for sure. I just hate to do brand bashing.

Have to agree on Consumer Reports and canceled my membership years ago. I don't know of any really reliable source anymore.

You don't need a magazine to get the "reliable source" information you need. Best thing to do is ask people who actually own/operate the equipment you are thinking of buying to make a living. They will give you real time, real life info. Another good source is people who fix what you want to buy.

The internet is only a little better with a lot of prevarication and brand loyalty obscuring the truth. You also get a lot of scorned buyers and ex owners that are on a one man mission to trash the company they bought an unsatisfactory unit from. ;)

Several people have mentioned how bad the S10 pickup and Blazers were. One of my brothers bought a new 4 cylinder S10 in 1997, traded it off for a Colorado when the S10 had over 180k miles on it. Now the Colorado didn't last him long, before he got rid of it and now drives a Ford F150. When my grandson first got his drivers license 5 years ago, his mother bought him an '89 S10 with the V-6 that already had about 120k miles on it. Nice little truck that he only sold last year and only because a relative's death resulted in him being given a Chevy 1500.

My theory is that just as any normally reliable company can occasionally put out a lemon, an equally unreliable one apparently can make a good one.:)

I don't judge any company by one experience, I had a POS 69 Chevelle; went through three engines in 30 thousand miles, but later bought a Nova.

No brand bashing, just stating the facts.

Chris

Consumer reports and all actuarial data on vehicle repairs, each and every one, place GM products near the bottom right next to Chrysler. Ford products are wedged between Nissan and Mazda near the top on most reliability ratings. Consumer Reports came out just this last week and Ford is by a huge margin the highest rated domestic manufacturer. It's against their policy to copy their data without their permission, but feel free to look it up yourself. Again, just the facts. There is a reason that GM and Chrysler went bankrupt. Like millions of others who got screwed when they did that, I'll never forget or forgive them from stealing my money.

Fortunately for GM, there is a new fool born every day and most Americans seem to have short memories. GM's new IPO is today. Nothing personal, no, it is personal, I hope they fall flat on their face! They killed off so many jobs, destroyed so many suppliers and devastated so many retirement accounts that I personally don't think they should still exist. I will admit that I did smile when the Consumer Reports current edition which reported on vehicle reliability pretty well called GM products junk.

How bout the PINTO!

rear collision = KABOOM!!!!

As long as the people filming put a lit road flare under it before smacking it at 70 mph...

oops, my bad. I forgot that adding facts does nothing to further a brand discussion!

(By the way, I'm driving a GM, but will NEVER buy one again since they went socialist. More likely to get a foreign job or a (removed) as Chrysler is socialist too. Had my mother-in-law get a Subaru. Good vehicle for her.)

LOL! Where do you think Consumer Reports gets their reliability data?! It is from people who actually own those vehicles!!! Duh! They don't sit around and take votes. They send out hundreds of thousands of surveys and simply compile the data they receive. Sorry if the masses disagree with you. I'm sure somebody somewhere is driving around a Yugo wondering why everyone says that they are no good.

Yes, they send out the surveys and then sometimes don't agree with the survey results, so they actually do the rating on what they think of the products themselves. And when I saw that a couple of times (you have to read the entire report; not just their rating) is when I dropped my subscription and quit believing anything they have to say.
