LEMONS!

I personally never pay attention to CR anymore. I've had no luck with their recommendations and have had great luck with the stuff they trashed.

I prefer to ask around. I don't trust anything that is assembled wholesale like that.

They say that they buy and test all of their products open the open market. How does a semi-limited publication come up with the money to road test Escalades and Benzes by payng retail and losing at least 15%-20% if they sell them in a few weeks....Just curious.

Nothing wrong with listening to them if you want...I just won't.

Exactly. If someone wants to use CR as his bible to buy all his construction equipment, barns, dozens of Stihl power tools, whatever the laundry list of things he lets us know he owns, that's fine. :)

I prefer to consult the guys who use them, get their opinions, recommendations, then make my decision. CR is for people who have little experience and are buying their first chainsaw, toaster, etc.

Ya know, whenever I try to extend the proverbial 'olive branch' to you, .

You have thrown so many personal insults at me that you could never get me to accept an "olive branch". Don't bother anyway, because I don't see anything resembling an "olive branch" in your last 6 paragraph diatribe, just more personal insults.

I suppose you reap what you sew. You constantly want to refer to me as the "rich" guy. I started with nothing more than an idea. Perhaps if you treated people as they should be treated you'd have 4 businesses in 9 states and simply buy any piece of equipment you needed rather than rent or borrow it. (Hint; if something is mentioned here that is superior to what I own, I'll just buy it - not debate the issue)

However, I have no time nor patience for rude, pompous and arrogant people. They are a dime a dozen and never make for a good customer or friend. At one point in my life I had to put up with those type of people. Boy, that sucked! Fortunately, after decades of success based on nothing more than giving the customer their money's worth and treating them as they should be treated, I will never have to put up with the arrogant and rude type again in my life. ;)

Hard to believe we're in the last few weeks of 2010... where does the time go?

I value TBN because of the open exchange of info on a wide variety of topics... someone asks a question and many willingly step-up and share their experience and insight.

Membership and readers in just about every corner of the world keeps the forums interesting.

I hope we can all stay friends?

OK, I think we've established the fact that 2 Super Members with 5,000+ posts don't quite get along. I suppose not everyone will get along with everyone in the world...although that sure would be nice.

Personally, I'll take a bit of what each of these gentlemen says. I just bought a whole houseful of appliances, (TV, Fridge, Range, Washer/Dryer) and thought it would be a bit difficult to ask around, so I consulted CR and they had some detailed reports about each appliance. Made my choices, found a good store (H&H Gregg) that would deal, and dropped a good chunk of change. Been very happy thus far, although only 9 months along.
Other items, such as my Dozer and Excavator, I don't think CR has any reports? ;) At least I couldn't find any....so I asked around, talked to operators, dealers, etc, and came up with a few good brands. Also been very happy.
I believe there is value in both of these sources.

Soooo.....any more Lemon stories????

I lemon lawed a 2009 Subaru Impreza last year. It had a wicked shake that couldn't be fixed. I now have a 2011 Subaru Outback with a security alarm that goes off every single time you open the door. They can't seem to find the part to fix it after seven weeks !!
I love Subaru's, especially in the snow but this is getting old for sure...

Bummer! I really like those Subaru vehicles and it seems that most people have good luck with theirs. You sound like you have the same luck I have; my lemon was a Toyota, most people seem to love them. We are both living proof that even some of the most respected companies make mistakes. Hope it all works out well for you.

Is that security alarm a factory option, or a dealer add-on? If it's the latter, I'd tell the dealer to take the dam thing off and refund the money you paid for the alarm.

I have one of those %&*(^% Belarus yard ornaments right now...I have come real close to hacking it up with a sawzall and mailing it back to Russia! That's not a joke.

had a 75 lincolin convert. if you s
can think of it IT WENT BAD. THE DEALER GOT SO FRUSTRATED THEY STOPPED RETURNNING MY CALLS. I ended up putting it in my front yard filled it with dirt and planted a nice lemon tree in the front seat. FORD bought it back

All cars have improved greatly in the last 10 years.

I dunno. Have you driven one of those $2500 Indian made cars or about the same price Chinese made cars?

Now, that Mahindra diesel pickup....I'd seriously like to check one of those out for a light duty diesel pickup though. The few reports I've read have sounded promising.

Builder indicated the JD Sabre as a lemon, funny how things work, I bought a new 19 hp, 48" Sabre several years ago and couldn't be more pleased with it. It has a Kohler engine that runs perfectly. I mow about 3 ac of mountain ground that passes for our lawn and so far, nothing has broken. Maybe I was lucky and got one made on a good day.

We bought a stainless BBQ at costco 2 years ago.(not a cheap one)

Last week I tried to order parts for it..... good luck ! They are made in china.

The parts they did send didn't fit, wrong threads (metric)

So now we are shopping for an American made cooker.

OOOOH how I hate chinese cra.....!

I have a Weber, it cooks very well, it is made in the USA and I know that I can walk into Ace Hardware and pickup just about any part for it from a shelf or worst case, have it ordered. Of course since it made well it will probably never come to that. The majority of stuff coming out of China seems to be junk that has a engineered life of one to two years because they cut corners where you can't see it. Buy it right or buy it twice because only a rich man can afford cheap stuff.

Had a few lemon tractors over the years One being a 1969 JD 3120 bought from brand new and only doing 3000 hrs to today with 1 engine 3 sets of brakes ,hyd pumps etc. Repairs cost more than purchase price within 3 years.
A MF 3080 FWA admittedly mechanichaly a fantastic tractor that did 8900 hrs for us but not without a lifetime of crippling electrical and computer problems that never were eliminated and 2 new transmissions untill switching to a 16 spped tranny cured it .
And the trophy had to go to a Valtra T160 that i used to drive...2hyd pumps, front axle, Engine /electrical/computer (shutting down/lack of power) , Cab trim falling off in side and out , seat broke up, Exhaust stack breaking away from mounts, PTO problems ...plus many many more...all in first 2 years ?

Too bad lemon trees wouldn't grow up here. I could have done that with my Pontiac Montana. I had two blown head gaskets at less than 150,000 km (not miles) and GM wasn't there to acknowledge a problem. I didn't feel I had support from my local dealer even though they were the ones who serviced it and replaced the first head gasket. Needless to say I haven't had service done there since.

I had thought about putting it in the front yard and selling tickets allowing people to beat it to death with an eight pound maul!
If that comes with free beer...........I'm in:thumbsup:

I'll never forget when I was a teenager there was a guy with a white F-150 4x4 that had a big yellow lemon painted across the tailgate. He even got on the local news to explain all the problems he had with it.
