my 390 cost me around $1300 with taxes/delivery/chains ... and I put the most expensive no name/store brand $8 gallon of bar oil I can find.
I'm burning about 5 gallons of gas a week in the saw, and about 2 1/2 gallons of oil when I am really ripping through it
ok that would make a lot more sense. I did not want to say but if you paid 1K for a homeowner saw you were taken, you could have bought an MS660 for that !
Heck even for the saw I bought I thought 1300 was a lot of cash ... but I haven't had anything slow it down yet ... and cant argue about having more power =)
I thought you were speaking of a Sthl 390 too; I about crapped my pants.
Thanks for clarifying. My MS660 cost just over $1000 US with an extra bar
and 3 chains per bar.
Same with my 660 that saw is a beast. Rips through wood like a raped ape.
The problem I found with regular oil on a chainsaw bar is it gets hot and runs off the bar. I use bar oil as it has some type of sticky adhesive quality that seems to keep it on the bar.
It is called Paratac, it is polymethylmethacrylate. I have been in the lube
business for almost 20 years I love reading threads like this. I have learned
everyone has their opinions when if comes to lubes and seldom will they
change.
It simply comes down to bad oil is better than no oil, the correct oil however
is the best. I purchase the Stihl mineral oil based product locally for ~$10
per gallon. The high end biodegradeable Stihl is a great product and should
be for $40 but that is what biodegradability will cost you, it is mandated by
law in Germany that you can only use biodegradable oil in a chain saw.
