And that's probably what they THINK they're getting but the Raptor is just like every other truck SVT put together and that is a SHOW truck and not a PERFORMER. That truck is nothing more than a garage trophy and will die a short death in any real off-road endurance. Luckily the government has the money to keep them fleet maintained and replace all the broken parts.

Comparing it to anything more than a show truck is a joke.

Do some reading. A stock Raptor ran Baja and did quite well.

Read a little yourself! Last time I checked the article said "Ford wanted to prove the Raptor's capabilities to the world. So Ford entered a modified version of the truck into the Baja 1000" including a "beefed up Fox Racing suspension."

FAR FROM THE SHOW TRUCK YOU GET FROM THE DEALER!
I could "modify" any truck to compete in that series but that doesn't make it a good truck stock.

The Raptor is still much better than the power(less) wagon.

Wouldn't surprise me to find they paid MORE to have the leather deleted! I've worked in a field with fleet vehicles for 30 years...I've seen invoices where extra was paid to delete a standard stereo in favor of just a radio:cool:

You mean WE

In two years you can buy them at auction from the Border Patrol for .10 cents on the dollar.

I remember buying a truck from a NASA auction that retailed for 35K two years old for 4K and only 1,600 miles on it. I drove it for 10 years and sold it for what I paid for it.

Recently I bought a 90K boat from a State Police Auction that was bought with Homeland security money for $1,000 and they threw in about $2,000 in new replacement parts ( 2 of everything )

Then there's THIS:

IRCRAFT, BOEING 727-100QC (S/N 19854) N40. WITH MANUFACTURE INSTALLED CARGO DOOR, CARGO FLOOR, HEAVY DUTY LANDING GEAR. MAX. TAKE OFF WEIGHT: 169,600 LBS. ACFT TT: 35,379 HRS. TOTAL CYCLES: 27,575.

Starting bid $1,000.00

I don't know..But every border video I've seen shows Tahoes all over the place...

If I remember correctly, that stain on humanity, Bin-Ladin was using Suburbans in Afghanistan.

This all might be a lost issue.

As a current federal employee, one of the few things we dont get screwed on is trucks and tires. Not saying that they may not have paid more to delete the standard leather than just getting it. But when i worked on a military base we bought our trucks outright and did not lease them from the government GSA leasing agency who usually procures vehicles for all gov agencies if they do not purchase directly. GSA wont order leather. But back to when i worked on the base, we would order any truck we wanted for 20K. That was at that time 2500 HD cheverolets 4x4 power windows and locks, the extra cab and cd stereo. We also has a SRW f-350 deisel and a ford f-25 v-8 gas, that was a dog. And a dodge 2500 extended cab v-10. That was 6 years ago so it may be more like 25K. Tires are often times $20-55 off retail per tire.

Oh i fforgot the other thing is tractors. A guy in my agency also into tractors called the local dealer to see what the government price on a JD 50 HP 4x4 w/FEL and bushhog. We could get it for under 20K. They have some deal where its some set price over cost and it comes directly from the factory for a fed purchase.

About gov auctions, while deals can be had those trucks are usually driven in harsh conditions like they were stolen. I have driven a little over a 6 government trucks in my 5 years in gov service. Most were pieces of junk when the foresters got through with them. Now deals can be had, we always joke that we get the monday mourning trucks and the friday afternoon trucks. GSA (our leasing agency) only changes oil at 7500 miles regardless of service. My truck need a new air filter almost every oil change at 7500 miles due to the severe conditions i experience as a forester in the dry dusty conditions around logging equiptment and following trucks on miles of dirt road to get to the job site. This classifies as severe duty in the owners manual and therefore whould defer you to the 3K oil change. But they dont care we use to sell them off at 60k now 65k and 6 years to get more worth out of them.

Some of those trucks i drove back in 04 and 05 on the base were late 90's trucks with around 20K miles on them, but almost half of those were in 4wd. Things like that you dont knw when you go to buy this 98 year model truck with only 25K miles on it.

so I am sure they will enjoy them.

Chris

That's my issue. I have tremendous amounts of taxes confiscated from me for new vehicles for these people to "enjoy" while I drive a truck that will hopefully last ten years so I can get stuck with the United States version of The Peoples Car.
