Yes you can try to reset the page count, that might work. Fusers also work by temperature. The fuser is what burns that black metallic carbon on the paper. Sometimes the fuser doesn't get hot enough so you get replace the fuser warning. Some printers you can cheat and set the temperature lower and the warning will not go off for a long time but you can get some black dusty sheets. When you handle the fuser bulb, make sure you don't touch it with bare hands just like a auto head light it will shorten the life of it. The same with the cartridge, don't touch the 'ink' area. It is a biodegradable organic material and will break down with time and light as well.

Never used a Color Laser printer, (I rarely print anything.) My woman has HP all in one that we refill many many times both color and Black. I used my printer once 3 (almost 4 years) after buying Her computer (HP) came with it. last week after 8 or 10 months I tried to use it 2nd time and it would not work. :( her Multi function printer is close to 10 years old and works fine... the NEW HP stuff seems pretty crappy compared to what it was 10 years back.

Her HP pc has been a problem since day one. same with the HP camera we bought a few weeks after the PC it lasted 6 months and was messing up, HP kept telling us to try different things until the warranty was up and they offered us 25 bucks of a NEW HP camera ! lol. I will probably never buy anther HP device...

Mark, the print nozzles will gum up with dried ink if not used in a long time.

it is/was not the print head gummed up it is the printer communication it wont even try to print it goes into a comm fault and wont even try to boot just blinks and grinds then flashes & goes dead...

When I raise the cover to pull the print heads the drive mech wont even move the heads to the removal pos.
I cleaned & re-filled the black cart and it still has same issue.

Assuming you really have not used the printer nearly as much as the previous years, I'll go on the thought that the page count didn't properly get reset. Should not happen when using HP supplies at the correct interval but anything is possible.

I think you hit the nail on the head!!

It stopped on a print yesterday. I took the fuser out....looked at it....shook it...(don't know why I shook it ) and put it back. I then noticed on the screen, it had some question/answer.... and scroll down... then it had a reset counter choice.

Realizing this worked on page counts, I hit reset.

Working 100% fine now!

Anything made by HP deserves a good shake now and then... just to teach it a lesson!

Use it 'til it dies, pitch it, and go buy a brother 7840W (or equivalent at the time), and be done with it. Get a 9840W if you need color.

I have 4 of them, good quality, good price, easy networking, etc. Great printer, great fax, good scanner, great copier with doc feeder. 299cdn, likely cheaper south of the 49th....

Yup  Brother my 2nd printer 11 years ago but was took out by lightning 2 years later, 3rd one was to replace the first one and it last me 5 years and got taken out by lightning again, now I have the 4th (all-in-one 5460 ) 4 years now, I have learned to unplug all my components when a thunderstorm comes up;)
so really I cannot tell for how long a brother will last but do know they are user friendly, Now as for my first printer being and HP had prier to all of the others last about 2 years and I never could figure out how to use it correctly having to press 1 button to press another button to press another button just nutted it up and fried it was certainly not the average Joe user friendly printer,
I think this person knows how to put a fix to the HP printers:D
