What type PTO?

   / What type PTO? #21
When I think of a dual clutch, I think of two friction discs held within a pressure plate assembly and driving two output shafts. When those two discs are engaged and released by a common, staged action by a single element (such as a foot pedal), one has live PTO. When those two friction discs are controlled by separate and distinct release bearings and control systems (as a foot pedal and a hand operated lever), one has one form of independent PTO. Functionally no different from the independent PTO on your 7610S and 5000 which both have IPTO via separate clutches located in different parts of the chassis and which by only the loosest of definitions would be considered a 'dual clutch'.

Rick,

If you had only one choice to make, then which type would you choose?

Hands down, a mutiple wet-disc PTO clutch.

cool, would have guessed the same.what type of control for the clutch pack would you have, electic or mechanical?have a hard typing on my mobile, trying to hunt ,no deer insight and plenty of attention deficit here.:)

video on PTOs and ORCs -

YouTube - Kubota Power Take Off (PTO) and Overrun Clutch

So now, should I invest in an ORC? I don't currently have one on my PTO.

As the video said, it will prevent the load from turning the PTO backwards but since I only run a bushhog and a finishing mower (at this time) they aren't going to run backwards anyhow. Unless I hit something at which point they should stop but not go backwards. Or would/could hitting something and the blades stopping suddenly cause the shaft to lock which could cause problems in the gears for the PTO?

i like mechanical engagement.. that way I can feather it a hair. I hear some mahindra's have a solenoid engage that could slam in hard..

so back to that hand clutch deal.. is the hand clutch literally up front and works one of the clutch plate release mechanisms right up there with the foot clutch.

no deer yet and I'm bored ut of my mind.the hand clutch activates first clutch disk with it's associated release mechanism, it is normally off unless you feather it in and engage, foot clutch (traction) has nothing to do with the pto,it's got a different spring set up than the normal dual clutch,i don't like the set up much, hate quick acting solenoid valve, causes hammer, much rather use hand operated slow acting valve as well, jc' somehow my mobile browser does not allow me to start a new paragraph,go figure:(
