I'm looking for something to buy my wife this Christmas and she asked for a 'gun' that would deter the neighbor's goats from coming onto our property. She says that she wants something that will 'hurt but not kill.' The goats creep under the fence.

So. I don't know what to get for this. And the recommendations from previous posts are all over the board. Both of us have little experience with any form of gun. And heck, I'm not even sure that a pain-inducing rifle will keep goats where they should be!

I quickly looked at small gauge shotguns, air shotguns, pellet air rifles, and small gauge rifles. It looks like someone is selling a handgun that fires shot.

Any recommendations on where to go from here?

Thanks
Martin

Have you considered putting up a strand or two of electric fence? You might also consider talking to your neighbor and trying to work out a solution to the problem together.

Either you and or your neighbor should improve the fence. Shooting  the goats, as it's not their fault, should NOT BE AN OPTION.

Gun won't help, I'm guessing you have tasty stuff in your yard. Need a better fence.

You are in LA????.......Golly sakes, I'll bet an ad in a Mex newspaper or a flyer at a laundrymat would have a line of folks that would meet you and help you out with a definate fix to that situation......

Christmas is a prime time to market CHEVON....goat meat.....and Mexicans are prime candidates to purchase a whole goat for slaughter......Easy $100........

Other than the above conversation with your neighbor there isnt much that can be done besides fixing the fence............

Stray animals around here come under the three S rule.....Shoot, shovel, shut up.....

Good luck.....Dennis

Another vote for electric fence. About the same investment $ as a gun, and much safer to the goats and your relationship with your neighbors.

Paintball Gun! You would need the clear fill paintballs.

Another vote for a couple strands of electric fence. I had a neighbor with goats that were escape artists and would show up in the yard to eat. Turns out the fence in their pen needed some TLC and for various reasons they just could not seem to repair it correctly on their own.

An hour or so of my time got the goats to stay put and earned me some "neighbor points". They were happy to pay for the stuff to fix the pen, and were grateful not to have to chase down the goats anymore.

When I was a kid we had the same problem. My older brother (then about 12) decided to lasso the goat. He had not thought ahead as to what he'd do after that, however, and I can still remember seeing him peeking out of the garage door, still hanging onto the rope with one mad goat waiting for him to reappear.

Thanks guys. And yea, sorry that I had absolutely NO idea of what to do. Also sorry that I did not mention the fact that we have talked to the neighbors several times to no avail.

Yes, we did kind of discuss a better fence. Or electric fence.

Thanks again.
