HydrauLink- a self-contained air over hydraulic top link

My friend, you have got to be THE first person to agree with me on that one.:QUOTE]

See, I know what I'm talking about even when I don't know what I'm talking about. Side link would be more important, from what I've experienced. To be able to change the grade from what the tires are on seems like half the job. Top-link just adjusts the 'bite' agressiveness (boxblade), that seems to only need two adjustments, one to start and another to finish, but the angle is in need of changing often.

In some situation you are correct. In others, it is a life (time) saver. For me, it was a cool novelty when I first got it. After I used it more and more, it became priceless.

My 3ph is Cat-II. My cutter is a Cat-I/Cat-II type. I don't know if the Cat matters, but when I hook it up, the tail will not raise very high. For transport (especially through ditches) I have to raise the tail up higher with adjustments to the top link. (Simply raising the hitch does not get the job done.) That is eaiser said than done with a regular top link. The hydraulic top link (the REAL kind, not the Hydraulink thingy) makes my work a breese. Trus me, this isn't laziness... it is simply productivity.

Raising the tail wheel of a 1k lbs cutter is not a fun job. The hydraulic top link really is a valuable tool.

In additon to cutting, grading becomes a smoother, easier and better job too. Being able to adjust the top link on the fly allows you to adjust it while you are tractoring down the road.

Jake, I could go on and on about my HTL and HSL on my tractor, but when I am boxblading, I leave my scarifiers all the way down. Using the HTL allows me to tilt forward and scarify and tilt back for scraping and dragging. It's the jam! HSL side-to-side adjustments are just as important. I'd be hard pressed to say which I like best. I had an old Ferguson 20 as a kid and was able to lean back in the seat to adjust the toplink and sidelink. When I got my NH TC45D, that is an impossible motion because the seat is so high and the fuel tank is behind the operator, square in the way of reaching back. Only a few trips off and back to make adjustments made me know both HTL and HSL were in my future.

One other use I find for my HTL is with my rotary cutter working over a ditch or pond dam. I back the cutter over and drop the back down with the HTL for a close neat cut. It's just an extra dimension of usefulness, and I run it out and back probably 100 times while cutting around my ponds and lake. It just lets me do things I would never have considered before.:)

No word from Hydraulink since July. I wonder if he turned everything over to the distributor or he just found greener pastures. Anybody else buy one?

The only question I was left with was 'if you wanted it to be rigid, could you just fill it all the way up with fluid?'

My guess is the air is in there to help protect the cylinder as much as anything else.

I bought one last summer and honestly, I can't imagine why you'd want to. I've only worked mine with a box blade but I haven't noticed enough 'play' in it to make a difference. I suppose its the air that lets it self adjust but the only time I ever really see it jump out a few inches is if I hit something hard with the implement, then it goes right back into place.

I was asking about HydrauLink, the TBN member, not the product. He was very active and then suddenly disappeared.

If the heats too hot....get out of the kitchen. And...... I thnk that is what happened here. I think this board flamed the guy and his product pretty bad. Maybe deservedly....maybe not.

There was little this guy could say or do that wouldn't get him hammered. IMO...its summed up pretty well in post 199. I think he has a novel product and it could suit some folks pretty well....they "just" overstated it's virtues by their advertising....IMO.

As a product inventor / marketer (in time gone by)....I find this an interesting situation.

I think marketing guys have to have thicker skins than, say, engineers. He did seem to do a pretty good job of holding his tongue, all things considered. This is the only tractor board I visit so I don't know if they are promoting it on the other ones.

Did you ever post anything about your inventions?

John
