Branson 2910i
I have been reading the posts on the rough starting issue on some Bransons.
I have a 2910i, and in the cold weather it is rough starting, white smoke etc.
Here is a schematic of the preheating circuit. this covers 2910 (I),3510a (I),
3820 (I), 4220 (I), 4720 (I). Maybe this will help for someone is having the same problem. I hope this helps. Hope I got the attachments sent ok.:)

Did you have a problem with the pre-heat system?

Looking at the schematic, the glow plugs are activated through a relay. You need to determine if all the plugs are in working order. A simple check with an Ohm meter will do. Is the plug open or not? Are all the plugs in the same resistance range, about 1 Ohm each cold? The problem may also be due to the plugs not being heated long enough, you may need to cycle the heat 2 or 3 times.

What I do is cycle the heat a few times. It helps somewhat. Since this is a timer and I think it is solid state. Ther may be a rc time constant that could be changed ?????? Or bypass it with a pushbutton and heavy enough wireing. I dont, know about the optional wireing in this circuit.

How long do you have the smoke and "sputtering"? If only for 15 seconds or so I believe this is normal for this engine.

Do you have a block heater?

Yes it's about 15-20 sec.I think you are correct,it seems to be normal for this engine, from everything I've read. Thanks for the reply.

Mine came with a block heater and it worked great , just keep it hooked up at nite or even 30 minutes or so before use and it started just like summer. With that being said the original block heater went bad and I have not got around to replacing it yet. But with my 3510, I let the glow plugs cycle 4 to 5 times in 10/15 degree weather and it starts right up. Sometimes just a little rough for a few seconds. However I really don't like starting it like that when its cold and need to get off my hinny and put new block heater in.
