Gooseneck hitch on a flatbed dump body

Your bed sounds built pretty heavy to start, usually the purlin cross pieces and channel frame are all about twice as heavy in a dump version. I'm going through this looking to convert a trailer I have to dumping, I think it was a flatdeck on a straight truck years ago. The frame isn't a deep enough section to do this, it would fold up. Going to cut off the heavy 5" channel and replace with a light 8" channel.

Looking at the weight, I was surprised to find half my trailer weight is the 2.5" hemlock deck. I may skin it with expanded mesh or diamond plate to cut the weight down.

I guess it depends on the type of setup.

My current car trailer is 6'6" wide and 18' long. It weighs 2700lbs:confused2:

But it is decked with full 2" thick rough cut oak planks. That is about 1000lbs right there.

I finally called a large truck bed dealer in Sate College P.A. I told him I wanted an Aluminum flatbed, with side racks, that will pull my Gooseneck trailer, and also dump........"No problem he said we do it all the time." I asked how they do it, and he said they mount the hitch over the axle, they put an access door in the bed, and they use a scissor lift. I asked how they could use a scissor lift, and he told me they put it in backwards. It seems that by doing it this way it gives just enough clearance to get the hitch in. He did say that the bed would have to be raised an inch or so off the frame, but it looks like I will be able to have it installed through the local dealership near them, which means it will be covered by warranty etc..

Sounds like a you found a good place to deal with.
Here is a photo of my set up I built over the winter pulling my gooseneck. I have pulled it though many ditches and fields and have not had it hit the bed yet

Sounds good. Mind if I ask which dealer and what make bed?
