Goatman I will probably give you a call next week to talk tractors. I have already discovered Tractor house and appreciate you mentioning it, Builder- it has helped me get an idea of prices. My phone is 828-488-1391 in Bryson City.

After you get some ideal on what you are looking for based on all the good info posted here check out Craigslist. Of late the asking prices seem high but there are deals from time to time.

Some will be selling stuff to pay taxes for the next couple months and tractors in the winter months be what some pick to sell.

Some price at 150% of what they will take. I have never been turned down with a lower offer when they knew the cash was in my pocket. Make sure they are honest folks before you show the cash however. :D

As a kid I learned the power of $100 bills from a pen hooker who would come around to the farms to buy live stock. On sale day when you took your stock to the stock pen to sell them when you pulled into the stockyard they could jump on your truck and shoot you a cash price too while flashing $100 bills.

When I got more like 14 we had bought an old two ton farm truck and when the pen hooker came around shot dad a cash price I talked him into taking them to the stock yard. Out of the slab pile we were able to build some cattle racks.

Bottom line was the difference between the pen hooker's price and the selling price of that truck load paid for the old truck.

Now the stock yards for a small fee will come with stock trailers and pick up stock to feed their auctions.

Here, look at this page. Let's say for example I am trying to buy a IH 4WD 88 series.
INTERNATIONAL Tractors, Used INTERNATIONAL Tractors, INTERNATIONAL Tractors For Sale At TractorHouse.com - Page 1

At the top of the page on the right you'll see "VIEW HIGH LOW AVERAGE".

Click that Pricing Information At TractorHouse.com

It will take you to another page showing you the high/low average asking prices of the model you're looking at.

Then you can home-in on the one that fits you best price-wise.
These would be the ones for me based on price & location:

Thanks Builder- I was just using the general search engine to locate tractors and the average price only appears when you look at specific brands. I would not have found it the way I was using Tractor House.

I am curious what Ford tractor owners do for parts? Ford is still in business, big time, but they dropped their tractor line from what I can tell. So along the lines that a major, successful company might drop a product line, just buying based on the major current colors doesn't seem like a complete guarantee of parts and support availability.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas.

Depending on the Ford tractor's age, they can go to their local New Holland dealer.*

Here's a history of the transition from Ford to Ford New Holland to New Holland.

My brothers maintain a NAA and two Ford 600 Series and parts have never been a problem.
