I've had a few guys ask me to post a thread on a rear PTO guard I made over the holidays for my tractor. I did most of the bending and cutting on the ironworker and the rest was done on my Miller equipment. I did machine and knurl a stainless pin that will pull up to hold the guard up if I need to service the PTO shaft and I also machined a knob for the other side. Can't understand why It didn't come with a guard but It has one now.
Made out of 1/8th plate and used all existing mounting bolts on the machine to attach.

Please resize the pictures to something more reasonable. For us on slow connections this is a "painful post".

Thanks,

Derek

Looks like a very professional job of design and fabrication.

I am wondering why there is a need for the PTO guard? To guard against a buildup of blowing snow?
I see no need of it for any safety reason, as no person should be riding, or stepping over, or even near the attachment when it is running or blowing snow.

Just visually cannot see the shaft turning as easily from the seat while blowing snow.
I'm a bit puzzled, but that happens. :)

Really good question. I don't know why there needed as well especially on the Kubota Grand L. In these tractors if the PTO is engaged and you get up off the seat the machine shuts down. I do know now that every machine on the lot with rear PTO's got the guards in place. Might be a legal thingy.
Thanks for posting. Glad you like the guard.

Nice job Paul, nothing like attention to detail to finish a job up right.

Just curious, how old is your Rapid Tap? We had the old stuff pulled from the shelves at work a couple years ago, the new stuff (still Rapid Tap) is supposedly less toxic. Something carcinogenic about the old stuff, maybe fumes when it got heated?

I remember the first time I used the first generation stuff, it really didn't like aluminum.. smoke. The second generation (carcinogenic) was fine around aluminum. The new stuff (third generation) seems to work just as well, they just haven't found anything wrong with it yet I guess..
