Can somebody check out the gas cap on their RTV 500 and tell me if it has a keeper on it? By keeper I mean a piece that hold the cap so you can just let it hang when you remove it. I could have sworn mine had one but when I added fuel it didn't so I'm thinking I might need to go on a fishing expedition to get that piece out of my tank.

Well 1.
Did you pull the "Keeper" out with the cap? Checked mine and it seems to be a pretty long piece of material that is connected to the restraint at the bottom of the fill tube.

If you did break it off, it is such a large piece that I would not worry about it as it is too big to cause a fuel restriction problem and interfere with the fuel pickup tube etc.

I had a gas Kubota mower a few years ago. The rubber ring sealing the lid when the cap was screwed down was missing. I looked in the tank and it was laying on the ledge of the tank. It was really soft and gummy. I fished it out and told Barlows I needed another ring. They don't do just the ring so they gave me a new cap with ring.
Some months later I had a bad running Kubota. Looked at the opaque fuel filter and saw something black in it. Replaced filter and never another problem. Sure it was some of the dissolved rubber ring.

I definitely didn't pull the keeper out with the cap so I guess it's time to go fishing. I wasn't positive it had one but it sounds like it does.:ashamed:

I just checked mine, I have one.

That's what I thought, now I just got to figure out how to fish that sucker out of a 3" hole....I can pretend I'm ice fishing.

I don't if there is an easy way to drain gas from the tank, probably is but I haven't looked. Once drained, shine a light in the tank and see if you can see it. Either way, a rod, coat hanger or something with balled up duct tape on the end should work to *stick" the keeper and pull it out.

I was able to look down mine and fish out the nozzle that slipped off the gas can with a piece of wire. Now I gotta check if my cap has the keeper.
