Before I bought my B model they dropped it off and let me operate for a few days. Except for the cheap zerks a test drive would have revealed the other deficiencies. imo its a shame Kubota is incremental adopting the MTD business model. I hope they can fix your machine up the way it should operate.

I have owned four Kubotas and still own three. I will put our new M8540 up against any comparable model from any manufacturer; nothing MTD about it or my 5030 or 2660 either.

The only comments I can add is that the jerky 3 point hitch is a known issue on the Lxxx00 models so it's a shame you didn't come here earlier and do a search on that model.

Second, all of my levers were tight when new - 4WD, range selector, PTO selector - but all got much easier to engage/disengage with break in. I'd bet the same will be the case with your tractor whether you keep it or not. One trick on 4WD - if you have the loader on, drop it enough to take the weight off your front axle. Should slip in or out of 4WD very easily with the weight off. Good luck whatever you decide.

Although the OP has logged on over the past day and a half, he has yet to reply to any of the above questions or comments. For example, was the transmission discussed the tractor's or the snow blower's?

So, in the end, I'm guessing this post was mostly about venting. OK. That's been done here before. But if this post was to attempt to leverage your dealer or Kubota to take action on your machine, you might do better dealing directly with them.

In 1981, I bought a brand new Ford F-150. It came with the 300 six cylinder, which everyone knows and history shows to be, flat out, one of the greatest engines ever built. Torque that could pull stumps and 21 mpg. Mind you, in a truck, in 1981.

Anyway, this was long before what we call lemon laws, but I had to take it back 3 or 4 times in the first month. It was pure junk. Yes, it happens. The engine, the trans, everything. I never did get more than 200 miles on it. In short? I finally just went into the sales manager's ofice, sat down, and firmly said, "It ends right here." He agreed and prepped another identical F-150. I had to eat the sales tax, because there was no redress for the governor's share. But away I drove in another one.

In short? That other F-150 was to become simply the best vehicle I ever, ever owned. Flat out. I still miss it. I hardly even remember the first one.

Frankly, sir, if I was in your shoes, I would take that approach to this deal. But, if you just want your money back in buyer's remorse, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Sincerely hope it all works out for you.

I'm just curious why you didn't go to the JD dealer that you had dealt with for years. You had such good service out of your older JD. Why did you go for a Kubota?
:D "got a new neighbor a couple years ago that came up from the city. Nice enough fella but, good Lord, he should never be allowed near a tractor or anything mechanical. He needed a tractor and I took him up to my John Deere dealer who has been in business 78 years. He didn't want to pay the price of a new one, though he could well afford it, so I suggested low hour used tractor. A couple of nice ones on the lot.":D

Do me a favor if your back in the tractor shopping business. Drive a Massey Ferguson 1643 with a hydro. I don't care if you have to drive for 4 hours to try it (I did). I had one quoted to me with about all the options for about 22k. Way cheaper than the Kubota quote I got. Just to big for what I needed it for. Still want one though :).

I keep checking this thread to see how successful the dealer was. I am very satisfied with my L3130 Kubota. I bought it used (from dealer) and have not used it hundreds of hours, but it operates as expected so far. I had the opportunity to drive it (not one like it, but the actual tractor) before purchase. My wife even drove it at the dealer (and said that is a good one, let's get it).

I have the L3000, not a show piece, and yes, it is hard sometimes to shift the 4x gears, but it has already shown me , that I will be pleased using it.

Hi Folks,

To all of you that have offerred advice and tips on the quirks of working out the kinks of the 3400 I sincerely thank you. I will definitely following your advice.

Someone asked if the transmission problem was in the tractor or the snowblower. It's in the tractor.

We are still waiting for a new transmission ordered about three weeks ago. Someone mentioned that likely I would not be "satisfied" with either Kubota or the dealer, so let me clear up any confusion. Did I not mention that this dealer has a good reputation? He has offered me a loaner, and will repair the tractor to the best of his ability and I have no reason to believe that he will not follow through. He said he would make the tractor just like new. I asked if that included the jerky valve in the 3PH. I mentioned that there were several complaints from owners on the internet forums. That's when he said "those people don't know what they are talking about". Well, thats you folks, isn't it? I think most of you know what you are talking about and so I offerred him a challenge. He's a stand-up guy and accepted. Read my post again. Regardless, of the outcome, no one will be embarrassed. It's all in fun!

Now as to Kubota Corporation. I will not be "satisfied". Here is a company that designed a faulty valve several years ago and instead of recalling the product and replacing it with a proper one, that a first-year engineering student could have done, they tried to hide it and have caused consumers much grief. No respect except for the almighty dollar.

That is why there will be no Kubota in my door yard.

However, something good has come out of this situation. I'm going to GIVE IT AWAY!

Here's the story. When I was 10 years old I was sent to Residental/School for children who had no other place to go--some orphans, but mostly children from broken homes. School and work shops. (I worked in the Print Shop running dangerous machinery, that an adult man would not be allowed to operate today. No safety devices. OSHA would have a field day!)

This was a tough school. No time-out corners back then. Misbehavior was dealt with swiftly with a wooden paddle. The lesson that was taught over and over was NEVER, NEVER LIE! Lying would get you double whacks and loss of priviledges.

That school today takes wonderful care of over 100 children without a dime of government money. I have supported them in a small way and I thought to myself, instead of getting all upset over a silly tractor, I'll give it to the school . They have a Farm Program and will cetainly be happy. My wife will be happy, I'll be happy and even the dog will be happy!

I thank all you good folks for listening to an old phart and may God Bless You and Yours!

Alden

A marvelously classy solution to the problem....and I'm sure that the school will benefit greatly from it.

Well done:thumbsup:

Sounds like a great and giving/generous solution. I'm sure they will appreciate it. I'm glad your giving it away.
Still, one valve that's not right and your not going to have it in your yard and feel the company is bad! Not sure they are hiding it since it's right there in plain view for anyone that tests the 3ph to see how it works and it's right there for the thousands of owners to see it work. Is it right for it to operate the way it does, I don't know because I don't have one to see if it meets my needs and expectations.
