Buying Advice Kubota RTV 1100

Talking to the neighbor the other day and she said it was "cute" I corrected her and told her that it is a Kubota and is not cute and it is a TOOL!!! Show me one of these "Toy" atvs that will hall a ton of gravel.

My wife says mine looks like a clown car due to the outsized cab..I disagree, but she did let me buy it.

The neighbor says it looks like a UFO when I'm plowing at night due to all of the lights.

I still get the last laugh though.:D

I read on one of the threads that someone put lights on their dash to see the guages at night. My RTV1140 has built in lights in the fuel, temp and speedometer guage I noticed yesterday morning as I was driving down to pick up my Grands because the hill up to my house was ice.

Actually John, they were lighting up the gear selectors. On the 500 you can't see anything. The ambient lighting in the 1100 allows a little vision of the selectors.

Very little on the selectors. That's why I take my tiny disposable flashlight with me.:) Course I can feel the selectors and have remembered where 2wd and 4wd positions and Reverse, L,M,H are . I have to search around for the key slot, need light on it, I think it moves around.:)

I'm liking this thing. Wish it was faster but I'm not complaining when it's snowing or raining.

What is your top speed?

Top speed on flat ground is 24 mph in High. The least little incline drops me back to 15-20 in High. I'm getting pretty comfortable in Mediun speed for everything.

I wonder if there is a way to increase speed? I know our gas powered Mules were governed down due to some industry agreement. My Rhino has a cut out at 42 MPH, but by replacing the governing mechanism, it will go 55 or so. Of course it is a gas engine.

Around the farm I don't go over 20 anyway, but it sure cuts down on transport time between farms.

The 1100 is limited by the h-stat so increasing the top speed is tough to do... I have heard you can trun the pump pressure up to close to 5000psi but any dealer wont just do that for you. Our 1100 is a commercial work horse with a 1000lb soil sampler rig mounted in the box. We have put 30" ITP mud tires on to get through the messy stuff and have found that the Kubota is super sensitve to carrying the extra wieght and the extra power require to turn the big luggy tires. High range does not even work for us anymore due to the load and big tires, I have told out employees not to use high because the fluid will bypass and its hard on the HStat. Kubota has looked at it and says this is a normal limitation.

Our top speed with our setup is 17 mph on a flat gravel road. High range is no faster, and we find ourselves stuck in low (10mph) most of the time.

The beast is really heavy and will get stuck in snow if you high center the frame (even just a bit). Having a Winch and cell phone is a must. Last time I was stuck in a snow bank, the 1100 couldnt even spin the tires in low. (A little dissapointing) The difflock makes a huge differnce in snow as long as you keep your spped up. I am ordering a v plow so i can travel in deeper snow to get to our remote remediation sites. Keep you momentum up whenever you can, or you'll be stuck or finding yourself stoping to shift into low range.

Anyone had good luck with a turbo? I'll bet you could get the tires to spin with one.
