I'm not sure if it's possible or practical. I was telling my neighbor about a couple pieces of old pipe i found next to a woods road (trying to figure out a way to break them up into manageable pieces to get the $800+- scrap value) when he mentioned he could use some of it for grates in his maple syrup evaporator. That sounds like more fun... suggestions anyone?

portable bandsaw or saws all. If it is really cast iron. If it is poorly made CI it will eat blades.
Steel you can torch it.

Thanks.
He wants several 6" by 3ft pieces, seems like it would take a lot of sawsall blades.
it's worth a try though. i'll bet they'll make good grates.

Don't know what kind of tools you have available.
Plasma, carbon arc, demo saw.

I had to do a search to see what you meant. Guess I should have mentioned the pipe is 31" OD. If it's possible, he may find it cheaper to take it to a machine shop.

A chain cutter rental, would seem in order, otherwise a pair of safety glasses, and a sledge hammer...........

$800+ for scrap metal sounds like fun to me...wish I could stumble across something like that! I'd find some way to get it to the scrap yard, I guarantee that...
