What do you all mean fast. It depends on the amount of lever action that you give the hyd valve. Slow to fast.

If you knew the cu in of the motor, you can figure out the rpm, with whatever flow.

For example, 8 GPM, 15 cu in , rpm will be 123, and with 20 cu in, rpm will be 92

You can also slow down the engine.

Attached are some pictures of the new base bracket for the winch. With this and adding a new receiver pin hole, I can reduce the length of the assembly by about 3 inches.

I added a 5th hole in the base and into the winch backplate. I then welded a nut to this hole in the base. The male 2 inch receiver post is welded right on top of this (just covered it not actually welded to the nut). Just a little extra strength where the forces are greatest.

Well I just tested it out and it works very well and is easy to use. I have the following options.

1. I can set the valve at the back to reel, stop, or unreel and then at the drivers position use the aux PTO to engage it.

2. I can lock the aux PTO to down (must be down only) and operate it from the back.

3. I can disconnect the valve in the back and operate it with the aux PTO in both directions from the drivers seat.

It is a lot easier to use now since I can watch the winch cable and operate the controls. J_J, I timed the reeling in starting with the cable fully extended. It took about one minute. The cable is supposed to be 50 feet, but I did not measure it. It seems plenty fast to me and while I did not measure it the engine speed did not seem to have a big effect. I don't understand that, and it could be an illusion.

Again, thanks to all for the many comments, suggestions, efforts and patience. I really did not expect to do this much, but I am a lot happier with the winch than before.

So now that is done, what are you going to winch?

Mostly the Power Trac 422. Also logs out of the swamp. I live in a swamp, well some of it is a swamp. I get stuck occasionally. If the truth were known, I really don't need a winch all that much. This is probably the most frivolous attachment that I own. I have a hand powered boat winch that works pretty good. But, you have to crank a while, drive the PT a little and repeat.

Value of the winch, somewhat useful. What I have learned priceless!

JJ on my 425 if you use the quick attach valve you can control that by how much valve you give it , but on the aux valve when you flip the switch it is fully on. Slow the rpm down on the engine might help with the speed if in fact that is an issue. May not even be an issue though.

Way to go Bob. Nice job !! Glad it all worked out for you in the end.
Go Swamp logging !!!!!:D

I consider the aux pto and quick attach valve to be the same thing. The PTO is the other system with higher flow and on/off only by switch. Sorry for any confusion this has caused.

The aux PTO and the quick attach are the same connections/valve, I believe. The PTO is the high flow PTO circuit.

I knew you could get it done. Don't worry about confusing me , I stay cornfused all the time anyway.
