S&W making a .410 revolver

Don't mean to hi-jack the thread but I once had a conversation with a local deputy about guns. Best home defense gun= 12 ga. shotgun with pretty much any load that a normal hunting enthusiast would have. Personal defense= any of the larger caliber handguns, preferred .45. Also when question of where should shoot if intruder gets in, his response= 2 cranium,1 heart, in other words don't shoot to wound, they are not there to have tea. Alternative= empty clip anywhere in aforementioned intruder. My advice here would be to have extra clip ready in case his buddies are there too and want to join the party.

guess I'm not up on laws. How can they offer a shotgun with a barrel length under 16"? I know the .410 is a bit of a loophole because they also fire .45s.

If the barrel is rifled it is defined as a pistol in the eyes of the BATF&E
What about an actual rifle???

Don't know about the rifling or not but I was gonna say, they get away with it by it being a hand gun, doesn't matter what cal, it's a hand gun now. Much stricter requirments to buy compared to a shot gun. Sawing off a shotty is a way to conceal a weapon with out going through the back ground checks it would take to buy and carry a legal concealed weapon.

If that makes any sense.

JB.

Not bad advice, but usually when the buddies start hearing the popping they tend go the other way.

I guess so.

This makes perfect sense. Why should I go through the trouble of a weapons permit
if I'm going to hold up a bank? Just buy or steal a shotgun and saw off the barrel... worst case scenario i can plead down from armed robbery to a firearms violation. (minor sarcasm here)

S&W is making a judge copy for one reason Tarus is selling the heck out .410 pistols. A friend was recently in a local gun shop and the owner told him he had sold more judges than any other pistol in his 15 years of owning the shop. Good or bad Tarus found a seller. I considered the Judge for a tractor mounded snake gun but have decided against it due to the fact the short barrel basically sprays shot with no pattern. I have instead decided to get a HR Snake Tamer that is short .410 with a survival style stock.

Is that what they used to call a "snake charmer"? I looked at those years ago, before I bought my .410 Contender.

Nice gun for the money. The short composite stock and nickel plating make it relatively weather resistant.

The one I am going to buy is called a Snake Tamer.

Same basic concept as the charmer.
