Here in Texas we use signs and a purple paint. The paint is put on trees or post every so far around the property. With the paint I have heared if you can get the law there the trespasser will go strait to jail. I had just the signs up and the county sherrif told me after he witnessed me telling the trespasser not to come on my property the next time I could press charges.
I guess all states are different. I now have plenty of paint around my place plus a big dog.

Wear your gun where it is easily seen or lay it on the dash. Usually when you ask someone to please stay off your property they tend to not argue.

Ted, you are right about the camera...I tried that ..these cameras all have a flash and the person trespassing sees the flash and either steals the camera or destroys it..I tried putting tape over the flash to just get a picture in the day light hours..the flash still flashes through even black tape...

There are cameras that don't have flash. Use infrared.

The Brinno cameras are a TIME LAPSE CAMERA ,adjustable from 5 sec-24 hrs.
I.E. I set mine for ten seconds,it will take a picture every ten seconds until dark....keeps going until you run out of battery life or memory.Uses a 8gig flash drive.Kind of like a video.....you set the speed. Also has a decent program that comes with it.
If interested just Google Brinno cameras or Plot-Watcher..I think I bought mine from Amazon.com

They were homosexuals and we had young children at the time.
We did not really wish to have that sort of educational discussion quite yet.

Ok Pilloon, were the nudists all women? I could handle that, but I'm thinking that's not what your situation was...! Of all things that could happen on a guy's property, I think you win the award!

I did figure out what the laws are here and I got a few signs to put up, once I get a chance to go back there. And thanks guys for the links to game cameras, I am seriously considering getting one or two of them, for both figuring out who's back there and for seeing what wildlife is passing through.

If you encountered a trespasser on your property who wanted to argue or wouldn't leave, could you get away with aiming your pistol straight down at the ground & firing, while standing a distance of say 20 or 30 feet from them? And then if they still don't leave you take a step or two toward them & do it again, & then maybe once more?

You know, warning shots directly into the dirt. (careful, don't shoot your own foot!)

Would this get a land owner in trouble?

One thing I miss about Texas:
Sec. 9.41. PROTECTION OF ONE'S OWN PROPERTY. (a) A person in lawful possession of land or tangible, movable property is justified in using force against another when and to the degree the actor reasonably believes the force is immediately necessary to prevent or terminate the other's trespass on the land or unlawful interference with the property.

(b) A person unlawfully dispossessed of land or tangible, movable property by another is justified in using force against the other when and to the degree the actor reasonably believes the force is immediately necessary to reenter the land or recover the property if the actor uses the force immediately or in fresh pursuit after the dispossession and:

(1) the actor reasonably believes the other had no claim of right when he dispossessed the actor; or

(2) the other accomplished the dispossession by using force, threat, or fraud against the actor.

Let's say somebody comes onto my land without my permission and they get injured. Does having no trespassing signs clearly posted help me in any way, or am I liable for their injury no matter what? I suppose these matters are handled differently depending on your local laws.

I don't believe in posting land.

This changes state to state, but (ironically) putting up a no trespassing sign and restricting access opens you up to liability. In my state, provided you have an open-use policy, you are absolved of any use liability, unless you booby-trap the area. This was made obvious by my insurance company after I bought my first large (300+ac) parcel. It cost $0 to insure.

I now own over 540 acres of mostly wooded land in a couple of locations, and keep the areas open to multiple use (hunting, dirt bikes, atvs, snowmobiles, etc). As such, I take a recreational use property tax reduction. I also give permission to ATV and snowmobile clubs to create and maintain trails on my land whenever asked, which gives me access to a $2Mil insurance policy that is controlled by the state, although that fund is likely completely not needed. I love it when others come in and cut and maintain trails, because when they are done, the trails are there for my use - I am an avid dirtbiker when I can carve out enough time to actually go.
