Built a Shrub Bucket

I have one from markham, pretty much as per the pic by JJ in 35. Pretty cheap (why I bought it). I haven't found it too useful, but I have a backhoe. Would probably play with it more otherwise.

One improvement I think would be to make the sides straight. Mine is wedge shape, with the fat end toward the FEL. I don't see an advantage to this design, and I think it makes a lot more resistance to digging.

I note the second batch of pictures JJ posted, #s 2 and 4, are straight, and they look to me like they'd be more useful for shrub digging.

Just circling back on this older posting..... The Tree Spade / Shrub bucket is still working fine, and as someone asked, I've found there are other uses for it to (since I'm basically lazy).

> Cutting a swale or ditch..... the bucket design is just right for cutting a narrow trench or drainage swale. Takes practice to get the right scrape angle and push speed.

> Picking up debris / bricks. Worked really well for moving a pile of used bricks. The full size bucket seemed to push the brick pile, while this bucket cut into the bricks and grabbed a full load.

> Laying gravel into a drainage ditch. Straddle the ditch and as you back up and tip the bucket it fills the ditch covering field drain pipes nicely without dumping gravel everywhere. BTW - I also used it to spread gravel on my Two-Track road across a field....the full size bucket dumped it across the full width...with this one I can dump right into a single track at a time.

I have been looking for something to transplant trees for sometime. I found this thread to be rather useful in my research. I am currently tweaking the given specs/plans and am having one fabricated.

The problem I found with most stump/shrub buckets on the .net was they were built for skid steers and required an adapter to fit my 300cx loader. Which alone was more than the bucket.

I should have it in the next few weeks and will be eagerly awaiting putting it to use. I'll post results after getting a good feel for its usefulness.

Thanks for all the information and tips.

Thanks for the Welcome Jake98.

I don't have much experience with heavy equipment so I mostly sit back and read. Visit daily but rarely post (as you have pointed out).
