I'm not jumping-up-and-down happy about E15, but someone a few posts up hit the nail on the head:

If you have vehicles or equipment that came with literature from the manufacturer saying *this* fuel or *that* fuel is not supposed to be used, then you will not be forced to use it.

What's the government going to do....come up with some new "Cash for Clunkers" program so that the vehicles we have can run on the gas they make available? If all that's offered at the pumps is specifically prohibited with written documentation we have in our hands from the manufacturer....whaddya think they're going to do....considering they'd have millions of vehicle owners telling them they have some serious 'splaining to do? How 'bout the thousands of dealers looking sideways at them because they've mandated a non-recommended fuel, and now they have customers wanting warranty work paid for when they've used the specifically prohibited fuel that rendered their warranty void?

E15 will be made available. What's out there currently isn't going to be made unavailable.

The sky is not falling.

;)

Around here there's only two places to get fuel for stations. What they carry is what get's delivered to most of the gas stations (some independent stations buy from further away). These depots are not going to put in a new storage tank to hold e15. So how are they going to carry every type of gas they currently carry plus e15?

Does anyone expect stations to invest the money to put in a new tank for e15? or will they just carry the cheaper of the two gasses and figure some other station will handle the other? Right now nobody can answer these questions.

In an ideal world all we would have is blender pumps and the user could set the ratio they wanted. But that's also not going to happen.

I think a high percentage of Americans know little or nothing concerning engines and mechanicals, but they all want clean air regardless of what it costs. Along the same lines, they really don't care about fuel mileage that much. Why do they still buy horsepower and travel at 85 mph? With ethanol, the government is giving them what they want. No you won't see separate pumps for E10 and E15. Give them a year and it will be all E15. Complain all you want, but the majority wants clean air, safety and high tech features.

it's not just the internet, it's nearly everybody I know who runs and/or works on small engines.
Why else would my chainsaw's warrantee be voided if I run ethanol? More specifically (sp?), ethanol eats away at fuel lines, o-rings, etc. The separation issue is also a well known problem.

As for treating the fuel; if this is necessary it should be done during the blending process, NOT post consumer.

The only choice we have around here is to use it, or else adopt an Amish lifestyle.
End

Kind of changes things doesn't it?

2 questions.

Why buy a saw that has the warranty voided by the only available fuel?

Why build a saw that can't take the available fuel?

I bought the saw a month before ethanol found it's way to Maine.

Maybe they wrote that because they know it's junk fuel?

Some of my stuff goes back to the days when there was lead in the gas.

More ethanol means more trouble for me.

Mention of storage depots not putting in an extra tank is correct. Right now the tank farm depots don't even store E10...they do store pure ethanol in a seperate tank. The ethanol is inserted into the tanker truck at the loading rack, so called "splash blending". So no extra tank is needed.
Many stations only have 2 gasoline tanks, one regular and one premium. The pump blends the two if someone buys mid grade.
So with only two gasoline tanks they can't offer E10 and E15 and premium.
The big question will be which will an individual station elect to sell?
I too am afraid at some point the EPA/government will not give us a choice...it will all be E15.
Ideally each station would be capable of blending at the point of sale what each customer wants to buy...if the customer wants E15, or E1, E0 or even E25, it would be his choice, without forcing it on everyone else.

Haaa ha, clean air... Right. Were putting our balls in a vice and paying out the nose to squeze an extra .001% of efficiency on emmisions reduction here. While industrial jabba the huts like china and india belch it out at an unchecked, unfiltered rate. The US doing what its doing is like worrying about a leaky toilet on the titanic.

FWIW my small engine guy claims it is the gasoline that is junk, ethanol or not.

I'd find a mechanic, a real mechanic ;)

I asked him why I don't experience all the " problems" other do and he asked if I use the Stihl brand mix oil, in which I do, he said that it has the stabilizers built in.

This is kind of contradictory, he clearly admits a problem :confused2:  The problem is the ethanol, you may want to ask him what about the gas makes it "junk"???

I was going to ask if you own a saw I quess I got my answer. I also use a stabilizer, own 2 stihl saws and from my understanding ethanol is a NO NO, or at the very least use a stabilizer. I do know of guys that have not used stabilizer and have regreted it.

The use of ethanol in our fuel will go down as one of the biggest scams in history. A month or so ago even Al Gore admitted ethanol is not economically viable, and that he had pushed it only because he needed farmer's votes in Iowa. When a box of corn flakes costs $5 you know something isn't right...

Here's an article from the Energy Collective:

Al Gore Says Supporting Corn Ethanol Was a Mistake | The Energy Collective

Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore has said he made a mistake promoting first generation corn ethanol during his presidential campaign in 2000.

Gore says he was more concerned with garnering votes from farmers in Tennessee and Iowa than with what was best for the environment. A clean energy enthusiast, Gore says corn ethanol is not a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. The process of converting corn into ethanol is highly energy intensive and also requires using a food crop for fuel.

The food-versus-fuel debate is nothing new. However, it really exploded when the United States experiences record food prices. The biofuel industry was blamed for this. This year 41% of the United States' corn crop, representing 15% of all corn produced on the planet will be converted into ethanol.

Corn ethanol received US$7.7 billion in subsidies from the U.S. government last year. These subsidies are up for renewal soon, and the debate has already become heated. Growth Energy, an organization representing ethanol producers in the United States, responded to Gore's comments with this statement: "The contributions of first generation ethanol to our nation's economy, environment and energy production are not a mistake, but a success story."

Gore contends corn ethanol is negatively impacting food prices and that there are better biofuel solutions to be developed and supported: "I think second and third generation [biofuels] that don't compete with food prices will play an increasing role, certainly with aviation fuels."
