Buying Advice Tiller options GC2400

I sell geardrive and chain drive tillers and 4 brands. I am pretty sure a chain or a link is less expensive to replace than a gear. Of course, that depends on what else the failed part destroys on the tiller when it goes out. Ken Sweet
You would be a good one to ask, Which is better gear or chain?

EDIT: Maybe I should rephrase that........which has your business had the most breakdowns with, gear or chain?.........or does it appear to be about equal like I've been reading?

I have sold 2 #80 chains in 34 years to go on tillers we did not sell and zero gears. If the clutch is set right, both are fine. Ken Sweet

That's what I was thinking, thanks for the reply.

And the rest of what you typed tells the tale. 34 years of selling chain and gear, and no breakdowns on the ones you've sold.

I have a King Kutter 60" tiller and it works great! Makes the ground like flour even in sod because of the 6 tines per flange design. My GC2400 handles it just fine!

My RTC 48 does the same. I was a little concerned about going bigger than a 48" on my GC2400, didn't know for sure if the PTO would handle it.

At first I thought about using my BIL's KK tiller, but his is a 72"........that may have been a bit much for the GC.

Ok KKR, you win. Today I placed my order for a TG-48-XB tiller. I even wheeled and dealed a little and threw in the MB-Y middle buster and a CV-G-1-C tine cultivator. Total price $1419.97. Think I got a pretty good deal. Been sitting looking over my brochures and noticed a MB-G middlebuster that is #20 heavier and quick hitch compatible. Checking to see about swapping to that one.

Thanks again KKR.

GREAT! I'm happy to hear it! You won't be disappointed!

I think you got a good deal also!

About the Middlebuster... I'll try and explain this so as not to confuse anyone. Previously we made two types of Middlebusters. One that was quick hitch compatible (MB-G) and one that was not quick hitch compatible (MB) (the "Y" after the "MB" in your model number "MB-Y" simply means that it will be painted King Kutter yellow.)

We have discontinued the non quick hitch compatible version. However, we changed the model number of the quick hitch compatible version from MB-G to just MB.

That being said, if the dealer you bought from has some older stock, this could still be one of the old, non-quick hitch compatible models.

The way to tell the difference is to ask if it has the bracing from the top link area down to the lift arm pins or not. If not it's the quick hitch compatible / current model.

Sorry for the long explanation.

I'm going to attach some pics below.

He is putting everything with his spring order to KK. So it will be new. The -G model said it was heavier so I assumed it was the one with the cross bracing. If the T looking one is the heavier one then I am good.

As long as I'm asking, what is the depth on the XB middle buster? And why isn't the standard model adaptable to sub-soiler?

The depth on the XB middle buster depends on soil type, tire size on your tractor, etc. But the shank from the cross member, down to the point is probably around 14 inches (I don't know exactly, I can't say I've ever been asked, or measured).

The reason that the standard version of the Middlebuster and Sub-Soiler are not interchangeable is because they have different angles of "attack" (or how the ripper shank or middle buster moldboard is attached to the shank)

I hope that's clear, if not, I'll try and explain better.

Assuming then that the XB is a compromise between the two optimum angles you get by purchasing them separate?
