This may not be applicable at all, but it may help in some way. I own a plane and the worst thing that you can do to an engine is run it for short periods of time. It is much easier on an engine due to thermal cycles to run it for a longer duration and then let it set for a couple of weeks than running it for 15 to 20 minutes and then shut it off. the engine does not get hot enough to heat the oil enough to evaporte harmful buildups, and also the short cycle causes more condensation.

I know this is not an airplane, but it is an internal combustion engine, i also know that the damage is not in the engine, but if i am not too badly mistaken the thermal cycle concept may still apply in this area.

Any more contact with the customer?

Well the customer is supose to be here sometime today, he told us yesterday he was going to take it straight to JD and trade it as soon as we delivered it.
I politely asked him if hhe wanted me to drop if off there for him to save him a trip but he didnt take me up on it.

OOoohhhh.......what a threat.
I can't believe that is the way someone would end a situation like this. Akin to "I'm taking my toys and going home".

Nothing need be said beyond thank you and a polite handshake by either party- to end this chapter.

Brave of you to offer delivery- i wonder what issues would have come up from you transporting it :confused:

Curious if he will ever show up on your door step again- "when" the other dealer treats him "bad"

Caught in a bluff he'll have to maintain the indignant and righteous tone till the money deed is done to save face. Excellent.
Might still have a cash/credit card issue but doesn't look like it. Wish there was a way we could bet on the outcome but still too many variables.

Yea thats what I was thinking too. Im wondering if he will bring the money in himself or if he is gona have someone else bring it for him. I dont care either way, if he does show up ill shake his hand and wish him well and then he can keep it or trade it that will be up to him. The tractor is a good tractor and other than neglect it will still make someone a good tractor weither its him or a new owner.

Yes, be above the fray. Now, this is a done deal and he lost. So...

If it were me, I would be somwhat subserviant (maybe acting kind-of apologetic without saying so) in presentation in order to give him an honest red carpet treatment for the brief time he will be there. Oh, it's still cash and it's still on your terms 100% but I would set that aside and treat him as best I could while ignoring the unpleasantries.

If he grouses about the deal. I would passively say "yes, thank you", and treat him nice while again immediately avoiding the whole clutch issue.
If he says he wants to trade the tractor, I'd say it's up to you but it's an excellent tractor and you ought to reconsider. Totally try to avoid the clutch discussion. Only light and brief conversation.
Maybe even if he pizzez and moans, ask if he wants to come back for a free half-hour maintenance talk and owner's manual discussion before the busy season begins. This sounds dumb and is up to you but is disarming and passive in nature and elevates you in his thinking.

He prob won't ever come back and this probably is all over but this type of approach has worked for me over the years and proven financially beneficial and, if one cares about it, emotionally profitable. I never let my guard down even one percent, however.

These are just toss-out there comments because I am not there and do not know the customer as you do. Just thinking stuff for during the day.

The tractor is 2 and half years old and the customer says he uses it everyday.It has 120 hrs on it, not alot for everyday use. I for one think its been under water. What do you think.

Maybe he has a fish farm(grin). Sorry, I couldn't resist. Sure looks like it's been in high water.
