If gasoline prices should go to even $5 per gallon wouldn't there be a LOTTT of pressure to develop domestic sources?

Here in Canada (near your Michigan) we are paying $4.57 per American gallon, The Canadian dollar is same as American one right now too. So that is ridiculous and a major part is taxes in the gas. I saw further back in the thread a few snide remarks about American jobs (hydro poles) being sent to Canada and how that was wrong. Please do not get protectionist on us Canadians. Please keep in mind that Canada is the USAs biggest importer of oil. And considering we are a nice stable country (unlike the Arab ones) We hope Americans will recognize Canada as a help and solution, to not being so tied to Arab country whims and holding the oil ransom.
The solution can come from North America for Canada and USA to become self sufficient as long as we dont get too NIMBY not in my backyard in regard to refineries of new fuels.
I have high hopes for biofuels from Waste wood , or fast growing renewable wood.
Get the refineries using more ethanol biofuels for cars etc if Canadas oil sands cannot provide North America all the oil sourced gas in next 20 years.
But like many here on TBN, I wish we had more choice on diesel engines in our cars and at least our trucks. But not those big expensive 8 cyl diesels , I think a decent large four or small 6 cylinder diesel engine, in a reasonable priced pickup truck would get us 30 to 40 mpg and that would help our pocket books and our planet. Europe has all sorts of choice on engines but North America does not, because of ignorance in the marketplace about diesel engines.
And we need to stop the governments from listening to the enviro nutbars that want gas prices to rise and be taxed to the hilt. The youth of today are being brainwashed enviro green, and are not understanding that the ipod they have in their pocket was paid for by Dads transportation dependent job that needs cheaper fuel !

hang on every1 they are building the trans canada pipeline an that will help push oil prices down fairly quick.

1.23 per liter/5.53 per gallon for deisel and 1.09 per liter / 4.90 per gallon for gas here in eastern canada.That sucks

I heat our Farmhose with a Toyotomi vented laser heater. Needs K1. Last fill up got 155 gallons at 3.99 per !! Thats dyed K1 (no highway Taxes!!) So it's not just diesel.

Just listened to local news , they said because of the turmoil in Cairo Egypt , expect gas prices to rise .10 to .15 per gal. because ??

exactly...why? When there are tankers lined up offshore with no where to go with their load, why will this affect things? Its just an excuse to raise prices. Remember a couple of years ago when Morgan Chase spokesman got on tv, declared oil will hit 120.00 a barrel by the end of the week...and oil would instantly start rising. Because oil investors wanted a piece of that action, everyone started buying up more stocks,therefore increasing the price due to demand...a self fulfilling prophecy. All it is is manipulation......
i own a gas station in western md...diesel here is 3.69 and gas is 309......and yep the oil companies are making the BIG MONEY! so are the the big truck stops on diesel. us lil guys are lucky to make a nickel a gallon. plus credit card fees are crazy ! visa charges the store about 3% of the purchase plus a 35 cent card swipe fee! the big oil companies and the credit card companies are doing great! we all need to stop buying fuel for 3 days and then you would see a drop! i think ?
It isn't just the youth.
This comes out every so often. The answer is the same, "Pay me now or pay me later."
