In New York state this year:in the hunting hand-out;Pigs are a shoot on sight and report to the DEC.They are getting loose from the game(shooting) preserves.It is only a matter of time before we have this problem.We have two big game preserves in our area.

I wonder what bullet he uses in the AR-15? Supposing it is .223, it really puts those hogs down much better than I thought a 223 would!!

There are better calibers for hog hunting than the .223 but it never takes us 3-5 rounds. The smaller caliber requires a more accurate placement. I've taken down many hogs using .223 with one round. I've even taken down a 175 lb sow with a .22 with one round @ around 30 yards. The .22 was the only thing I had and the pests were destroying the fields. The shot was lucky but placement was between the eyes and no there was no suffering (she died immediately). I'm defiantly not advocating using a .22 for hog hunting just emphasizing placement. Our preferred rounds are 30-06 and .223 Magnum. I don't consider what I do as hog hunting but defending my property as humanely as possible. I personally can't stand to see any animal suffer and it's gotten me into trouble in the past. I did wound a hog once and went too end the suffering. I was stupid and walked around were the hog could see me. It got up on three legs and chased me around my four-wheeler. After two circles the hog headed towards the brush. As I was going in circles I was pulling my 9mm. At that point I had the time to end it. Never, never, never let a wounded hog see you! If it does the chase is on.

There's two places a hog can be shot with a .22 for a quick kill. The term is often said to be "between the eyes" but if you were to draw an imaginary line from the base of the ears to the opposite eye the spot to hit is where that imaginary X is formed. Between the eyes is just a little too low. The other quick kill target spot is high behind the ear while quartering away.

Above is the link to the video where the hogs are being shot with a 223 and it clearly take a lot of shots to put the pigs down overall.

If the magazine on the first rifle is seen, it looks like a FAL type (straight) which is why I think it is a 308. The sighting system also seems better in the first video and near the end in the fading light it looks like he has a laser sight (can see the dot on the hogs backs before they get nailed). I am referring to this video with the 308

I don't know if the head mounted camera has an adjustable focal length, but the first video either gets the chopper closer to the hogs or in the second video it is zoomed way out which creates the impression of the subject being much further away....

Whichever way, the 223 doesn't seem to do nearly a comparable job. This is surely not like hunting out of a blind.

+1 on this. I use a .223 to take hogs regularly. As stated, placement is the key. In the ear or just behind the ear and they drop right there.

Agreed. Never done it but with moving pigs and shooting from a moving helicopter I would choose a .308 over the .223.

These videos demonstrate that there is a valid use for high capacity magazines. In order to keep flight time down, you would still need 30 or 40 of them. I wish the farmers luck. Hogs have a huge breeding rate.

Never heard feral hogs called Organic Pork but it sounds like a great marketing term.

If the OP need any help thinning out his Organic Pork just let me know, I have a teen age grandson that would love to pop a few of them.

Can you say dinner time. Here are a few pics ill share. I hunt them with a mini 14 (.223) and take them down pretty easy. I also use a 7 mag. But the mini 14 is alot more fun.

Spain makes ham from wild pigs and it is very expensive. It would be VERY funny if they are taking hogs from the US and selling it as Spanish raised wild hog ham.
