I'd go nuts if I was still an employer.

After reading the stories here all I can recommend is to save and invest like crazy so you can retire early or at least move to a job that you enjoy. It will mean giving up some of the toys, but it might buy you back your sanity.

Hmmm ... Toys? Sanity? ... Toys or sanity? ... toys ..... sanity .... I'm thinkin', I'm thinkin', don't rush me.

I got out a couple years ago. I feel much better, and I am doing better health wise also. Now if I could get my wife to move to Florida.....

........... Now if I could get my wife to move to Florida.....

This sounds like the first part of a Rodney Dangerfield joke. Like - my parents moved 7 times when I was a kid, but every time I found them.

After 22 years of slaving away I watched my long term co workers get fired screwing them out of their pensions etc. This company was making billions and there was no need. I kept slaving away hoping each day I would not be next. I stuck with the pressure and bs until finally I cracked. I now suffer from permanent cognigive damage. The pension was dipped into so it is underfunded so not likely will there be much left for anybody.

Ya so keep slAving away trying to feed your family and you could end up like me with disabilities. Perhaps find a better way to feed your fAmily.

Of cource there will be employers who 'abuse'..I worked for a company 30 years ago they made some good profits..(at the time) They had a retirement trust fund that was based on earnings employees could direst up to 5 percent of their check into it. then the company would match based upon the profit. every year I was ther for 10 years they matched it three times over. It was well managed, and in 1990 a co worker retired with just under a million . Not bad for a shipper..Then they changed the plan and people were able to borrow on and use the money, the company went bankrupt several years later...
It is all a matter of being somewhere at the right time.
But above all its leadership or lack there of. Walmart comes to mind started on principles and then they must have hired oil company people becasue they now ahve the same mentality. greed and money..
gaproperty I feel for ya.. the dedicated people dont get rewarded. But try to move forward..
If you got disibilities from the job you could be entitled to compensation, including social security..FYI

Are you saying you lost your 10 years worth of retirement savings?

I can relate being in the wrong place at wrong time...

Through mergers and acquisitions I have lost 80% of my plan one time and 60% another because I was never fully vested. I've been at the same desk and same Boss for almost 20 years... it's just the name on the building keeps changing and all employer retirement assistance stopped about 7 years ago.

Those that retired shortly after I came on board had built-up tidy nest eggs...

Things like employer match, profit sharing, employee stock purchase pension plan made some wealthy. The stock purchase plan was sweet... they you pay the lower of two values at the beginning or end of the period... in some cases, the money was more than doubled in a period of several months...

After reading trough these posts am i ever glad to have no employer/employee issues.
IMO every employee is a potential problem.I'll never have one.
I can come and go as i want and do as i please being my own boss on my own ranch.
Nice and quiet. There is nobody to satisfy but myself.I got no cellphone to distract me either.
Ofcourse there are other problems but at least not worker related ones.
