Not likely you can get your pin weight right to keep you legal in terms of axle weights. Guys will do what you're trying to do off the beaten path but you're into CDL territory I believe for legal hauling.

Regardless of how you load it, pin weight, axle ratings, etc your going to be over your vehicles GCWR. Even if you balance it on a heavy enough trailer to meet the axle ratings, the GCWR of the truck will be exceeded. You may be able to pull it but you also have to be able to stop it.

If he puts it far enough to the back his back axle will be off the ground.

Nothing a couple of casters at the back of the trailer won't fix.

Reminds me of folks with popup campers that don't put the rear stabilizers down and hop in the rear bunk. Instant wheelie!

Before I had legs on my trailer, my N could pick the back of the truck up if conditions were right. I HATE loading/unloading that thing.

I have a forklift that weighs 18,000 lbs and want to buy a goose neck trailer so that I can move it with my F350.
The trailer seems more than capable but is the truck and will it be legal.

First of all, :welcome: to TBN!

As stated before, more information is needed. Is this a one- time haul.....or weekly.....how far....what kind of f350......etc.
I "know a guy" that hauled an 18K+ dozer on a 30' LoadMax gooseneck with 12K axles behind a F350 dually diesel for 400+ miles. Truck and trailer handled it fine. The brakes on the LoadMax are awesome; would stop that load quicker than you'd think. While it's a testament to what the equipment is capable of, would he do it again? In today's climate? Overloaded....illegal.....no CDL....?? Probably Not.....

Thanks for the replies, I don't think loading is an issue because the trailer I'm looking at is a 20k dovetail with ramps. However the F350 won't do. I'm looking at an F550 mini roll off container truck that I would like to mount a goose neck hitch to . Will that work.? I'm in CT and will get inspected.

Just from memory, the standard GCWR for an F550 is ~ 28K, with an option to go to ~ 32K depending on the year and configuration.

Doubtful. Trailer rating - weight of trailer = load. So, 20k - 7k(maybe) =13K putting it 5K overload. You'd need something in the 26K + for that forklift. Is the lift an all terrain shooting boom or straight mast? Load height gets to be an issue pretty quick too. You'd probably have a real hard time convincing anybody that it's a non-cdl load.

That what trailer brakes are for.

Could he move it? Sure - but his original post was could he do it legally and was an F350 built for this task. The answer to both is no.

His GCWR is going to be close to 32,000 lbs or slightly more. Even a new 2011 F350 DRW with 5th wheel comes in at about 29,000 GCWR with a max trailer weight of 21,000 depending on configurations.
