Tiller or Disk or Cultivator or Rake or Pulverizer

I own a NH 55 HP tractor and have a disc harrow and 2 bottom plow that I can borrow. I know you recommended a farmer do it but if we are talking around 15 acres is this a job that I can tackle myself?

I have no real time frame that I want to get this accomplished in. Realistically how long would it take to plow 15 acres with my setup mentioned above?

I didn't realize you had free access to a plow and disc. Sorry. Yes you could do it your self. But as others have said it will take some time. :)

If you could pay a farmer $200 to plow it and disc it that's what I would do. But they may not do it that cheap. 15 acres is a lot to plow for "average" farm equipment. Now if the farmer has a 10 bottom plow and a 300 horsepower tractor... well it will get it done! LOL

I have Workmaster 55 4x4 with a frontend loader. I just bought a Fred Cain Feild Cultivator 9 shank. This is a handy and very usefull piece of equipment. If you have roots, rocks, and hard gound this unit will work better than tiller attachment. This attachment pulls hard and has springs on shanks when you hit rocks or roots that will not dislodge.

This is my favorite piece of equipment.

Speaking as a farmer who used to plow several hundred acres every year with a 3-bottom plow, 15 acres isn't a lot....just a little over one days work on average. I plowed just over 25 acres this past spring in order to overaul an old worn out hay field. Did so with a 2-bottom plow. That said, in todays world, I wouldn't plow 15 acres for $200, much less disc it also.

15 acres with a 2-bottom plow and a 7' disc, figuring 2 trips with the disc, and assuming enough tractor to handle each @ decent ground speed, about 18 to 20 total hours work.

2X14" plow, @ 4-1/2 to 5mph, should average near 1-1/4 acres per hour. 7' disc @ 5mph, some overlap, should do 4+acres per hr.

Time depends on your soil conditions. I have a very heavy clay. I do some small patches around our farms because the larger equipment is just to big to turn around. Took me a day with my 37 HP tractor and 2 - 14s plow to plow a 2.4 acre field but it was slow going due to lack of traction to pull the plow through sod that hadn't been plowed in over 15 years. The roots are an unknown but you should have no problem working up the ground with the plow and disk.
