Gas or Electric Golf Cart for a Run-About?

/ Gas or Electric Golf Cart for a Run-About? #71
Nice. I need to add hitch so wife can tow her dump cart and sprayer :) just not the highest priority item.

I pick up the cart this afternoon. More of a "bargain" cart - part of estate settlement and hasn't run in 6 months, but $1300 seemed like a decent deal. So high priority to getting it running. Wife is also concerned about where to park it. I'm floating a couple options, but any involve building something.
Besides a hitch, I want to add a flip rear seat, more for the cargo platform.
Not like my to-do list was in jeopardy of completion LOL

Well, I got the cart running. New plugs, some carb cleaner, couple shots of starting fluid. Took a couple circuits around the fenced 6 acres - what a blast.
Some more cleanup today, replace the fuel lines, etc.
Somehow, I think this may NOT be as productive as my tractors - but fun anyway.

David it sounds like you got a winner in your cart. If you can get Sea Foam out there and keep it in the gas it will help keep the fuel system clean and the gas fresh.

I didn't read this thread and someone may have mentioned it sorry to repeat but I like those Japanese mini trucks.

I think if I was looking for something to piddle around a farm etc I would just have to have one prices are decent too.

Gale. Nice to see you over here from BGW or is it CAH? Can't remember for sure. I just bought a 2006 PDS. You can buy a 5" lift for about $225 from the site sponsors ( i am looking at the allsports model). Did you do the jumpers yourself to the controller or buy it? Anyway nice seeing you again. For you others... wow carts are really fun and you can spend as much as buying implements lol I also have a 1978 Club car elec that I bought 3 yrs ago and my wife LOVES tooling around our cabin property. Best money I ever spent.

Thanks Gale

I'll look for the Sea Foam. I do use another stabilizer in my Honda generator gas. Right now the cart has a whole bottle of carb cleaner in the full tank. Figure that will give a few hours of cleaning.

I like them, also gators etc, but are out of my budget. This cart will serve that purpose. I'll add a hitch to pull wife's dump cart and 15 gallon sprayer. It will be a combo fun&function toy :) around our 21 acres.

I'll have to look for you over on BGW. I seriously considered going with a PDS, but this gasser seemed a really good deal at $1300. Didn't even use all the $30 worth of stuff I got yesterday to get her running. Still more to do though :)

Not sure I got the double quote thing right.

impdaddy I am over at Cartaholics Golf Cart Forum or CAH after getting kicked off of BGW.

One of the shop owners that has an ad on BGW stated I was using an antifreeze tester to test the specific gravity of batteries so I took a few hours and replied with several links showing the use of the little $1.50 4 ball battery hydrometer for SG testing. Now I know not to show up paying sponsors. :D While BGW has a lot of good info it is geared as a selling aid. The same sponsor had shot me a bid for 8 new battery cables for $149 and found the same quality cables slightly used for $49.95 shipped from some one that had upgraded to #4 but then when to #2 for some reason. Trying to be nice I let the BGW seller know but will not do that again either.

It blows me away what some guy's spend on a $1500 cart and there may be good margin in cart parts especially the cables and electronics.

I would like to have a lift kit sometimes but I have ankylosing spondylitis which has damaged or fused about every joint in my body so I just stay stock to lessen my pain of getting on and off again. I may do 20" turf tires on the rear for better traction on wet grass.

The seller just handed me a Steep Hill chip (actually a plug with a jumper wire in it) when I went to pick ours up. The chip in it had been pulled. While it does not give more power it will slow the cart from 13 MPH down to 10 MPH if you take your foot off of the pedal. The PDS steep hill safety features are awesome. If you stop and get off THEN it starts to roll it will not get faster than 2 MPH no matter how steep the hill either forward or backwards.

sodamo check out CAH. It is not as popular as BGW but has some good info on all lines. If you have not down already then download the owners, parts and service manuals from either site.

There is other great cleaners. I just like Sea Foam and buy it by the gallon since it can be used in the tank to preserve gas, intake, crank case and transmissions. It took half a gallon total (a quart twice) but it finally cleared up the milky fluid in the transmission/lift system of the 310B JD backhoe and the reverser clutch more firmly engages when going forward unlike when I first got it.

We used our 2007 EZGO PDS last night to haul a Blazer load of HF tools around to the storage building that I am currently using as a shop too that does not have a road to the building. While electric works for us after pushing it home one time we are more aware of our max range of 25 miles.

If it was not for our hilly 15 acres and the kids being 13 I may have went with gas but using if for Drivers Ed electric keeps down shouting and speed issues.

I think you got a steal for $1300 on a gas lifted cart. Very old 2 cycle Yamaha's go for that around here. We paid $1600 for the PDS and added the seat/cargo box and head lights for another $560 I think. The lights work nice on the road at night and can double as work lights if needed.

Either gas or electric can really save time and steps. Those little trucks have their place but are not really run-abouts in my view. We never had a cart before and are really having a blast.

I just found this thread. I have a 2001.5 EZGO Workhorse 1200 that needs its engine rebuilt or replaced.. The engine is 350 c.c. replacement.

Any one here have experience with this engine. I have been "offline" for more than a year due to health problems but am slowly getting to a "serviceable" level.

I am looking for a reasonably priced source of parts. My wife enjoyed using this around our acreage and is fussing about not having it to use.
