AZTim, I think I have found the way I am going to go for 308.
Original Metric FAL Kits
Kit to your door looks like this:
Sarco has bought container loads of what were apparently new unissued FAL rifles from Argentina. They were demilled by sawing through the receiver. So when one buys the kit for $550, one adds a new receiver from Coonan for another $300 and then has to fit at least an additional 5 US made parts (receiver and ejector count for 2). Typically most people replace small internal parts like the hammer, sear, spring, gas piston, recoil spring etc. Many people also use US made furniture like a wood stock below.

I will be doing one with a camo paint job and no muzze device (target crown only). Anything but a black rifle....
For anyone who has been following this thread, I bought a savage 24 combination rifle almost exactly 1 month ago and the BATF has still not cleared my background check. He keeps being told every week to hold the rifle for another week until they get back to him. My poor local FFL is losing money on that deal for sure ($30 transfer fee). At least I compensated by taking his $100 CCW training and paying him to fit the scope...
