Hadn't asked but already know what I would use them for... lol How/where are they usually installed? I work with a guy who welded professionally for awhile and has a nice stick setup... or is it worth getting the dealer involved?

I'm about to run out of time to keep asking for the dealer to throw stuff in. Still doing better than my first car though, mostly thanks to you guys and this site.

Unless your dealer will throw them in with the deal, just have your friend do it. I bought used and will have my son weld the hooks. My dealer threw in the hooks on our M8540.

There are several threads on hooks and how to best use them. I usually use only three hooks, but like the way PHILLIP8N has his set up. I often loop chain between the hooks to adjust the lift point rather than lifting with one hook. Maybe someday I will get it just right.

There are differences of opinion on number and location. I tend to be conservative on what I lift, so others can probably give you better information.

I bought my hooks from Tuck n Tow. You can actally fit 1/4, 5/16, or 3/8 chain in them. I have only used 1/4 or 5/16 chain so far. I have only lifted about 700 pounds, and never used all 5 hooks at once. But, like TripleR said, I use 2 to 4 hooks at a time to loop or balance out load. I normally use them to load an extra implement in the back of my bed (box blade, pulverizer, etc) or to move my sub frame and snow blade around if I don't want to mount it to tractor. With the heavy duty bucket, there was no need to weld a reinforcing pad. You may want to consider the reinforcment pad between the hook and the bucket with the standard duty bucket. Philip.

What are the advantages of a round back vs. square back bucket?

The round back is round or rolled on the inside, makes for easier material flow when scooping. In Kubota's case, the round back is also their heavy duty model, quite abit more stout in construction. Philip.
