Buying Advice John Deere compared to Kubota

My thinking is as follows; If we hold Kubota's proverbial hand to the fire they will tend to improve their product. If we tell them they are great, they will cut more corners. I can live with the treadle pedal, I run a 3410 HST on occasion. But why are the brakes and the travel control on the same side? Cruise control
combined with dual brakes is a recipe for disaster. .

Huh! so over seventy five percent of tractors built today are built wrong!

That would mean that 95% of all tractors ever built are built wrong!!!!!

I guess sometimes there is no logic to some logic!

Kind of like a hand clutch!

You guys are all unconvincing...I still can't make up my mind this time between JD and Kubota.

Sounds like a draw to me.

I did decide to go up the food chain to a JD3520 or L3940. Right now there are some trade ins still under warranty 1 year left with 225 to 700 hours and...that sounds really good to me.

JD 3520 for 21k; well that is really hard to beat.

Either of those will do well for you. If you think it is a draw on the tractors then maybe it is down to a financial decision. Go with the one you can get the best deal on. :thumbsup:

Both are good companies, I have owned both, but I prefer JD. With the current events in Japan, the Kubota brand and parts supply could become an issue. JD has more domestic parts available than Kubota.

What would be a good apples to apples comparison, I am not that familiar with the different John Deere models, thanks.

in my book you cant compare JD to kubota even if your comparing equally matched tractors.you just need to find a truyjful dealer in both,an ask them both the same qs you want answered.an then decide wich make of tractor you want based on their answers.

IMHO, As bigbull338 noted - it's tough to make a good comparison. Kubota's L3400 is closer to the Deere 3520 in size & power - but it's far less feature-laden. Comparing the Kubota L3940 to the Deere 3520 - the horsepower comparison is close, but the L3940 outweighs it roughly 700 lbs., has larger tires and physically is quite a bit larger machine. To me a better comparison is the Kubota L3940 to Deere's 4120. They are closer in size, equal features, etc.

Thanks for the information. All the model numbers sure got confusing when we were shopping for our last tractor. We bought a 50 HP and later an 85 HP, Kubota and John Deere both sure had some nice models.

One suggestion would be to look around at what folks around you are using. Chances are some of the local farmers and landscapers can be of help. After all, they use the equiptment every day.
