This actually seems like a real simple design. Any one have an idea where you would get a gear reduction that is strong? I figure the actually bit would have to be custom made. Doubt anyone sells it on the net.

Not sure what style of stump buster you are referring to? What's the gear reduction for?

Nice ideas but I am not sure how comfortable I would be in using something like that on a PT. The loader arms might tweak pretty easily with some of those sideways forces.

Those 3-PT stump busters were also on tractors with 100-150 HP engines. Though they wouldn't deliver all that HP to the mechanical PTO, they'd certainly deliver much more of the engine HP than the hydraulic PTOs on these much smaller PTs...

Hydraulics are typically around 80% efficient, but can be much less efficient than that, especially with hot hydraulic oil...

I have to wonder how much torque could be applied to the FEL arms by something that could rotate that slowly at full engine RPM and full PSI in the hydraulics if it locked up in a stump.

It looks to be about the same speed as the post hole digger. Correct me please.

3000 psi is the same whether it is produced by a small pump or a large pump. The volume is the big difference between the small machines, and the large ones. You might not be able to pick the item it up, but you can activate the cyl to split the stump or whatever.

Cyl bore of 4 in, and 2 in shaft, and 3000 psi will produce about 37,699 lbs A large machine with a larger pump will produce the same force, but will decrease the cycle times.

Using the same cu in motor used on two machines, more GPM's will produce a faster speed.

The relief should activate, whether it is across the hyd motor, or using the tractor hyd on the PTO.
