Tractor
Kubota M7-171, M5-111, SVL75-2, RTV900XT & GR2120; CaseIH 1680 combine
Minnesota cold winters and hot summers, along with retirement, convinced me I needed to replace my tractor. I finally decided on a L5740 equipped:

L5740-3 HSTC
LA854 loader w/quick attach coupler & 72" bucket
Rear wheel weights x 6 (3 per side)
Rear remotes x 2

to go along with my existing:

King Kutter 84" disk
Ferguson 2 - 14" plow
King Kutter 72" finish mower
King Kutter 3 pt bale spear
King Kutter 84" HD back blade

The second picture is the tractor it's replacing, a 1929 Case CC. Well, that is not quite correct. It is replacing my L3710 but it is already gone so I had to use my Case gate guard for the before in the picture. Now waiting for the ground to dry so I can really try it out. First thing to test it with will be my nephew's 4 row International Cyclo planter for my sweet corn plot. Last year I had to borrow one of my nephew's tractors to do the job - I'm interested to see if this one has enough oomph to get 'er done.

Very nice tractor, I love my L5030 HSTC and it does everything I ask of it or I go get the M8540, but my dealer has a new L5740 on his lot I just have to look at any time I go by there. They are really nice little tractors and very capable; enjoy.

Yep...sweet tractor. I was dealing on one with my 3130 as trade but the dealer would not give me a decent trade price so I will keep my 3130 for now. You might want even more weight if you are doing heavy lifting. I have 1300# on the 3pt plus 360# of wheel weights and the back end still seems quite light with the loader at max capacity.

I usually had the HD back blade on my 3710 when I did any loader work and expect it will be the same way with this one. I am hoping the wheel weights and cab will kind of keep the rear end under control, but I can tell by the response of the loader compared to the old one that it is going to keep me on my toes until I get used to it. Part of my job prior to retiring was accident investigation - have seen way too many to risk becoming one of them.

MHarryE, nice to see another person with wheel weights, not many of us have them. May I ask if you have considered filling the tires also? With filled tires and wheel weights I doubt that you would have many problems with the rear end getting light very often. You mentioned that you have 2 rear remotes, do you have other implements that you will need those for, or are you getting top and tilt cylinders?

Just wondering.

Nice looking tractor. I'm a little surprised you didn't get a snow blower for it. Do you know how much weight you added? I've been meaning to check to see how much weights cost, I like the idea of buy it once and never have to worry about it again.

Looks like the list price was $100 per weight, 6 weights total, 47 kg per weight, about 620# total. Tires filled would have been 265 kg each or 1170 total but up where I live, the nearest place that can handle fluid filled tires is over 100 miles away. My job before retiring was Product Support at Caterpillar Paving Products, specifically soil compactors. We filled our tires with 170 liters each calcium chloride solution. Great when everything is going well but even Cat dealers have trouble handling flats. Had many complaints about lack of traction only to find the customer had a flat and was now running with 1 empty tire, 1 ballasted. Plus if I have to trailer my tractor any distance, the extra 1170 pounds of liquid ballast puts me over my trailer weight limit. I can remove the wheel weights (until my back breaks) but its not really feasable to deballast the tires. I may regret it but...

As for the snow blower, that is what the tractor was originally equipped with, but I had them remove it for the more important (with summer coming) loader. I never asked about the price of the blower or how much it will take to switch. Question for October.
